  • I have buckets of used cosmetics that are good brands like Dior, Chanel etc but it says in Ebay rules that you can't sell used cosmetics so how do you get round this and sell them. I'm not fused about making loads of money i just don't want to throw them out. i've also got some body butters that i have tried once and don't like but can't find anywhere to sell these either.

Oh we so need a swap shop to go with this thread.

GG, strictly speaking I believe there is a policy that 'used' cosmetics ( and presumably toiletries) can not be sold on ebay. If the product has been opened but not used, that's OK.

As a novice ebayer, I only discovered this by accident, after having sold quite a bit of stuff, as you described, that I had tried a couple of times. A lot of people do do this, but best to be aware that I suppose potentially you could be reported.

The exception to this rule is perfume.

There are hygiene issues to consider with many items though.

Aaah - I am SO sorry! Gah, that's terrible of me, giving such misleading information. I had no idea you couldn't sell used cosmetics, because I've bought them before! Maybe there's a level of 'used' that's allowed - the stuff I've bought is always described as 'tested' or 'tried once or twice'.

Again, really sorry girls. If you have opened stuff sounds like you'd be okay, but better to give the used stuff to friends or family instead! :)

Well there's certainly lots of opened and slightly used stuff there and I initially thought exactly the same as you and sold quite a bit unwittingly. It was only later when I came across the 'rules'. There seems to be a certain degree of laxity and the market is definitely there so..........!!
  • Wow, pleased to see how many have joined the challenge. Looks like we can expect shares in boots & superdrug to drop drastically over the next few weeks!

Someone mentioned how to work out how much we have saved. I have given it some thought and decided that
to work out how much money I have saved, when I finish an item of shampoo or conditioner (or other toiletries in my stash,) I am going to put the approx cost into a savings tin. When I am down to my last item of each, and actually HAVE to buy something, then I will count up my cash.

I will need to buy toothpaste & deoderant in a few weeks, so I'm not counting them. For some reason I don't stockpile those. So only counting items in my stash! I'm not sure if this would work for anyone else? I suppose everytime you really want to buy something, BUT don't you could put that money away?

I have used this website in the past, from experience I had some great swaps and some okay swaps.

I won a competition on their for a skincare starter kit from a company.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I had an accident with a night cream I use regularly (lid not done up, I had sticky hands, and the cat knocked it :() I plan to replace that. :)

Goding through more of our stash I really am beginning to think DH needs this more than I...we have LOADS of unfinished aftershaves, shaving foams etc. ne of the things we have found really expensive in flight restrictions, DH travels a lot and takes hand luggage....work travelling, so has a permanantly packed travel wash bag...ut still, seems to pick stuff up. Some things are ust so uneconimical travel sized and difficult to decant: toothpaste, shaving foam...and hair product is difficult too. :(

Agree with this completely. My husband has loads of unused bath stuff, hair products, facial products (that I or others have bought him when he complains of problems with shaving or similar).
