Bus didnt turn up - Late for work

I'm confused would like to complain because the bus never turned up or more the fact you was made to be late for work?
I've got to say last week I was quite hacked of at work. I live in the North West and we had quite a lot of snow for days.
I think on the one day the whole of my department was late for work due to snow. Well I made it work on time everyday via public transport. I even left the house an hour earlier than I normally would to ensure I got to work on time.
I think buses being cancelled/late are poor excuses for being late for work etc. If in doubt leave the house earlier !Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I complained earlier in the year when we had no buses for two days due to snow. They reimbursed me the cost of two days travel (I had bought a week's bus pass due to the weather, as I normally walk).
It helps to copy your letter to the traffic commissioner for your area and your MP!
It also helps not to completely overreact!Gone ... or have I?0 -
You need to contact the Traffic Commissioner for your area. Where are you, i know the one for the North West is in Manchester.
They issue the licences.

Did anybody tell you there is a place outside the M25? It's called the rest of the country.
Actually, it does assist commuters outside on London, in what you call the rest of the country. Also it does give very useful info on travellers' rights.
Have a happy new year being a smart ares.0 -
Well they weren't the replies i was expecting!
People are suposing that we live in a town/city. This is not the case. We live in the country 9 miles from the nearest town.
Other options of transport are not available. Before April 2009 we had 2 buses every week on a tuesday. Now we have 3 buses a day. And the last one is only a return from town, not into town and is at 4:40pm from town, which is too early to catch from work (we were finishing work at 4pm this day). And the nearest train station is over 2 miles away and is a request stop with trains every 2 hours also.
The temperature that day was above freezing, there was no ice on the roads, traffic was flowing freely and no water except unsalted areas were frozen, but all roads into the town were salted and free from ice. The bus was running to a village 2 miles away we found out which meant that the driver probably did what he has done before and just couldnt be bothered to go the rest of the way to turn round about 4 miles away where there are hardly any customers.
A taxi is out of the question, it is £25 to town! And no, i dont work for a big company, the only people that work in the shop is me, my father and another man. It is a family business which made it important for us to get in that day as it was very busy.
I think that answers everything, i was hoping for some sort of laws which bus companies must follow and what happens when they dont, but then again its the internet! Search for bouncy balls and you dont get rubber ones!

We aren't all like that! Maybe you need to consider a contingency plan, if it happens again. Car share or pay out for the odd taxi fare.0

We were sitting in the house watching cars go up and down the road, waiting for the bus to go past (it turns round up the road so when it goes past we go outside to top of drive) and didnt think we needed a contingency plan as the roads were fine!
Car sharing wont work, me and my father live in the same house and the guy that works for us lives above the shop lol and a taxi at £25 is too much when its wasnt our fault. I just would of thought there was some form of compensation thats all

I would image your bus company is licensed to run a "route" by the council and that route probably includes a minimum number of times they must run it, etc.
However, adverse weather (even if the roads appeared ok at your house, you dont know what it was like at the depot) will remove any requirement on them to run the service. They have the safety of their customers/staff to think about.
Look at the airlines, they only have to refund your existing ticket, not compensate you in the event of something outside their control, i.e. weather, traffic control, etc.
So unless you have a season ticket you wont get any compensation, if you do, you'll probably just get refunded the for a portion of the amount that equates to the days the service didnt run.
Not what you want to hear, but you cant go after a bus company for not running a service on one or two days when the whole country is experiencing bad conditions.0 -
