Bus didnt turn up - Late for work

Options
Hi guys, first post here on the forums! Loving it so far! Not sure if this is in the right place though :)

Christmas Eve we had arranged to go into our town 9 miles away by local bus service which runs everyday. We had asked the driver if it was operating, which was all fine. Christmas eve comes and we are left at home with no bus turning up. We ring the company and they say it could be too dangerous because of the ice. We tell them that there are other cars on the road, no ice on the road and all is clear and safe but they had none of it saying it was up to the driver.

I thought that they had a commitment to get a bus to us or provide alternative transport, like the trains have and they put on a bus service when the line is closed. Can anyone point in the direction of what we can do as we were late for work by 2 hours when the next bus turned up. Ive searched and searched the internet but cant find anything.

Thanks in advance,

Daz

what would you have as alternate transport?
it was -11 here and its a touch riskier to have a slide in a bus with passengers than with a car!
buses get canceled in bad weather,it happened here,it happened in many places
  • You may be able to get some form of compensation, I have complained about buses in the past and they have sent me free daysavers.

Did anybody tell you there is a place outside the M25? It's called the rest of the country.

I complained earlier in the year when we had no buses for two days due to snow. They reimbursed me the cost of two days travel (I had bought a week's bus pass due to the weather, as I normally walk).

would you have preferred the driver to take on the risky roads then crash his bus? How late would you have been then??

Buses go off the road for millions of reasons. Its a fact of life. Why are you worrying about it?

Bit of a nonsense thing if you ask me. You could have walked or got a taxi, or found a lift from somewhere if you'd tried hard enough

These things happen in bad weather. It's not just the state of the roads but the state of the roads where the drivers live. Many of our buses were cancelled due to driver shortage -also just because your bit of road was OK doesn't mean the entire route was.

If your work was daft enough not to realize these were extenuating circumstances then that is hardly the bus company's fault as I doubt you were the only one affected (and if you were the ONLY member of staff not able to get in that raises other questions ! :) )
