Welshlassie wrote: »Wow there are some really impressive designs being worked on ladies. Can I ask what you do with them when you've finished? Are they all on display in your house, gifts for friends/family, something else entirely?
Most of mine have been given away as gifts. I have one (a huge castle sampler that took 7 years  to finish) hung up in my flat and I will definately be keeping Max, but all the others have been given away.
How do you decide what your next project will be? I can understand if you are doing something requested by someone else or as a gift, but what about the ones you choose?
Some are just suited to the recipient, some have been designs I've loved and some have been selected as kits by other people for me to stitch for them. That last category is not my favourite. If I don't love the design at the start you can bet your bottom dollar I'll blinkin' well hate it by the time I've made it!
The more complicated designs, how did you decide you were ready (skills wise) to start one? I've done quite simple designs until now, the Baby Express one I'm doing is the complicated one I've attempted, but compared to some of the others being worked on here and what I've seen on the internet they are very simple. I wouldn't want to start a more complicated design and then spoil it or find its harder than I thought I leave it unfinished.
Complicated designs are just lots and lots of smaller, less complicated designs all joined together. Take it slow, get a cross stitch friendly water soluble pen to mark your fabric into 10x10 blocks like the graph) and take it steady. Don't be afraid to unpick - it doesn't take long. Also, don't be worried about finishing one before you can start another - we all have UFOs.
Sorry for the questions, I'm just thinking about my next project (although I won't be ready to start it for several months, i'd like to keep my eye for it).
I only have two unopened kits left now - once I've finished Max (and done the backstitching on a huge Samurai design that's been in a cupboard for ages I may have to go shopping again...oh dear....:D
Thanks for the lovely comments about Max, ladies!

Here's how I'm getting on with Elegant Lady, now I have clearer charts (thanks pamperedprincess!):
This is how far I got after my holiday and then after a couple of days sewing last weekend using the new charts
I am getting there, but slowly...in fact I haven't sewn for a few days as my eyes are rather sore atm. Can't wait to get back to it though!!
Off to catch up with more threads until my eyes ache again.
Night, night.

Thrifty – I'm one of the weird ladies that you see on the TV breastfeeding, my DD is 3 has a breastfeed once a day.
TTTFW = Toilet Trained Toddler Feeding Weirdo
[FONT="]Mags – I love that design, but the backstitch has always out me off
Still working on the layout for the 12 days so not much to see yet. Must admit not touched it since Sunday as I have been at work, but will try and squeeze some in around the birthday celebrations.

Welshlassie wrote: »No idea yet. As I said earlier I've got a while before I'll be ready to start anything new (although I have just ordered a few thank you cards for my physios and MW, but they shouldn't take too long), but have no idea what sort of thing I want to attempt.
When I have the funds I find ebay a good place to see what I fancy. I search for cross stitch kits then just look at what's on offer. If I find a kit I fancy I research it to see if it's available to buy brand new so that I don't bid more for it than I could buy it brand new.
If it's not available to buy anymore then I just decide how badly I want it and bid accordingly.
Or I use a good site and trawl there kits looking for ideas then google/ebay for the best price.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
