  • I have made some progress this week. I took a couple of days off for DD starting school, and I made a duvet cover for her yesterday. I just need to sew on the buttons. I thought I'd get a pillowcase also, but there was just a bit too little fabric - I will get some different fabric for the back, and perhaps make a front with a large stripe of the patterned one.

I also made 2 crayon rolls, for 2 nephews. The very first one was a disaster, so I had to start again (I may manage to finish that original off, when I have the patience to deal with bias binding edging). But the second attempt worked better and I just have to sew on a button on each once I fill them with crayons.

I have cut out the pieces of 3 more crayon rolls, for DD and her 2 friends (I was asked, when they saw what I was at last night, by one of the friends for one each for them too). But they will be a job to finish tomorrow.

Time to clear up the floor, before I collect DD and organise dinner.

craftfairies - thanks. I'll try our new sweetshop in town thats just opened but its an ''old fashioned'' one and if they're asda sweets chances are he won't have them there but I can try co-op and tesco......we've got a couple of small branches of them.:)

  • Hello,
We have all been ill this week so not got around to doing much.

An idea for tea cups: fill with soil and some cyclemen flowers. or crocus bulbs. If you look on J Parkers website they have £15.80 worth of crocus bulbs for £2.95. I get their catologue sent to me but only ever order the offer plants.

    Fill with sweets?

As I said earlier I made snowman soup last year and found some the other day and was still ok!!!
  • I've already done a couple of candles with the tea cups. They look lovely!

Really interested in the idea of planting crocus bulbs too. Anyone have any thoughts on when the best time to plant them up would be?

Ruby - not sure when to plant crocus bulbs.........bought some last year and never got round to planting them in the garden so hoping they'll still be ok. Think you can start planting them now if you want but maybe best to check with someone more 'in the know.' than me......I'm either too early or too late!

Finished off little fabric heart and tree decorations today........well please and very mse.........fabric was free samples and I used ribbon for a loop from those bits you get inside jumpers or cardigans-found a corrugated card box I'd had some floating candles in so there were circles cut in the lid and managed to arrange them so the red hearts and ribbons can be seen through the holes. Need to add something for them to be hung on to......either raffia, string or something..........can't think what so all ideas welcom.

  • depending on shape and size of the offcuts you could make keyrings, doorstops, coasters. sure there are a million things but like I said it would depend on the shape and size.
Crocuses I think if you put in fridge now for a few days might be tricked into thinking winter has been and flower early...can't remember where I read that but you never know!

beachlou - sadly no piccys.......don't have a digi camera :( Keep saying/hinting about one but santa never brings it...................lol:rotfl:
You'll just have to use vivid imagination.......they're only made out of small fabric samples......check on one side, plain the other or all over pattern depending what I've got.
Had some more free fabric samples come this morning :j

Still racking my brain on what to put with them to hang them on -no lightbuld moments yet.........:rotfl:
