I have made these makeup bags to put away for christmas pressies. Made using upholstery swatches I received and some recycled ribbon and lace added, they are lined with cream cotton (pillowcase). Cost next to nothing and were so simple to make and rather quick too (if you have a sewing machine that is). I have already posted these on the sewing thread and on my blog so apologies if you read both you will be sick of the sight of my little bags :o

Love the cosmetic bags KANDIPANDI I `d like to do some myself for myself, I can put my net book in as well, just have to learn to sew...I got a machine but sewings not my strong point:mad:

SARAH POWELL how about giving the 16 year olds a cinema voucher, if they go on orange wednesdays they can take a pal for free. Or collect £5 woth of Morrisons points and they can goto store and get sweets and drinks.

For the in laws beers, how about a pint of socks with a glass and some socks / flannels, pot of gold with scratch card.

And for all of them, join TOPCASHBACK, place an order on vistaprint once a month and they`ll give you £5, order 4 free things a time, like a personalised pen, a t-shirt, some address stampers, a bag or mug. Just pay postage and you`ll get lots of personalised gifts for xmas.:T

Hi mrs greentoad , snowman soup - take a clear cello bag, put some spoons of hot chocolate in, then a layer of chocolote buttons, then mini marshmallows and dress them up abit. With a candy cane taped on as a stirrer, then print a verse

I havent any on my blog, I have pots of snow here but i didnt photograph my snowman soups. Theres some here about half way down the page is the cones:T

    The Verse

"I was told you've been real good this year, always glad to hear it.
With freezing weather drawing near, you'll need to warm the spirit.
So here's a little Snowman Soup complete with stirring stick. Add hot water, sip it slow, it's sure to do the trick"

Its a bit quite here, the suns come out to play and everyones disappeared...:rotfl::rotfl:

  • Sorry for the delay in posting my thanks for the ideas on my post.

Sammy-Kaye18 I was planning on using a bowl to present it instead of a basket but not sure if there will be too much to fill one bowl. I have seen in Tesco they do a bright Pink (She is very girly) I presume Large salad bowl as its part of their summer range but its only £1 and I am sure it will be fine used as a mixing bowl instead.

Susan42 Thanks for all those great ideas on what to include for the 16YO and the rest of the family have since signed up with topcashback so hoefully that will earn me a few quid. I was thinking I could buy some beer cans and make a kind of cake, I would put the cans around the bottom and wrap around a towel (maybe the !!!!/face towels to get the colours) then do the same above but with a beer mat on the outside and in the middle put a glass with the flannel in. Do you think that sounds ok?

MrsGreenToad Snowman Soup is as Susan42 has described, I have not tried it yet, this is my first Christmas of making things rather than buying off a wish list and already I am sooooo Excited.

KandiPandi I love those makeup bags, they are gorgeous.

    Have a good day all.

I think this year I will make a few snowman soups too. Might even do some of the chocolate coated spoons in a little tie pack to go with them as well.

Thinking I might theme the comfy hampers too that are going to my sister and step sister. Think one will be chocolate and orange theme, and the other will be strawberries and cream themed. Only problem is i want to put a homemade sweetie gift in and am stuck now.

I have found these http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/6368/chocolate-orange-biscuits.aspx for the chocolate/orange hamper ---- do you think they will look ok wrapped up nicely in cellophane?

and these http://www.muffinrecipes.co.uk/page33.html but i think i might try making these as mini muffins instead --- what do you all think?

Still slightly stuck on what is going to be put in the boxes for bens teachers but Im hoping I will get an idea soon enough - I'm thinking a bag of snowman soup each and a few home made biscuits will go down nicely for them. (oh possibly even some twinks hob nobs!)
    Time to find me again

Sammy-Kaye18 - Re your chocolate/orange homemade gifts, I made which I loved and I am no cook so chocolate orange truffles, coated in chocolate sprinkles. They went down a storm for me, all I did was used terrys chocolate orange as a substitute for the normal chocolate to make the truffles. I am not sure what you can do regarding the strawberries and cream as a homemade sweetie thing though.

  • I'm going to do crochet blankets this year I think. I was thinking white chunky wool and some flowers. Not for everyone, but maybe just my mom and MIL.
I did chocolate fudge 2 years ago. I was super tight on money, had about £50. I got boxes from Lakeland for £5, some pretty gift confectionary bags, and then whipped up some fudge. Oh, and I put some christmas penguin candies on top of each piece. The fudge is an American recipe, as we make fudge so different to Brits. It went down a treat. I know people weren't being polite as I get asked for it all the time.
If anyone would like the recipe for it, or peanut butter fudge, let me know.
