Crafting for Christmas 2010, lets begin again......

This isn't crafting for Christmas, but going to throw it out anyway.
My sister is 22 at the end of April and I want to try to make something for her. She likes nothing better than wrapping herself in a blanket to watch tv, so what do you think of getting a plain throw/blanket and then decorating the bottom of it with buttons, or embellishments, etc? Or am I being a silly person?

You could still decorate the bottom of it.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
That is pure genius. However, she does like cuddling up with her boyfriend under it, and wrapping around her waist etc.
Oh, the possibilities.0 -
elyphant - that apron looks lovely................I was going to do one for grandsons 3rd birthday in June but then found a little apron in a cheapo shop for £1.99 -I'd have had to buy new tea towels to make one so price worked out the same. I'd got a little chefs hat off the Freebie Board so now just need some plastic bowls and spoons and packet mixes of some sort.
Love the idea of a 'scribble book'..........nice one that:T
pepop - my word...........patience needed to do hair like that............!
Helsieboo - blankets are never 'silly'............OH got me one from Help the Aged (their 'new' stock) -was £4 and I loved it..............since then he's got me one every year............lol Lovely soft fleece..........very 'touchy feely' and I can create my own little 'comfort zone' on the sofa.
Not done much in the way of crafting today............been busy sorting through endless photos and stuff for scrapbooks................thought if I got it all sorted and in a pile I might actually do it instead of thinking about it till its November..............:rotfl:I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

How about turning the throw/blanket into one of these

If anyone does one of these I'd love to know how it goes - my hubby keeps seeing the ads for these and quite fancies one so i wondered about doing one for him for xmas. Am wondering about a couple of things though - would it be cheaper to just buy one than to buy nice fleece? And I've never sewn with fleece before, is it easy? (I don't have a machine).
Loving the granny square blanket artydoll, that brings back lots of happy memories for me (yes, of my granny!)0 -
Elyphant - I've been saying I'm going to do that snuglet since I first saw it just after christmas. You've all inspired me to really do it and not just say I am.
You can buy some really cheap premade ones but when they wash, they come out like a bit of rag. I reckon it will still work out much, much cheaper than the proper branded ones (about £30 - £40) and be nicer and more special anyway because you made it.I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!

Oh, the possibilities.
How about doing an extra large one with four arm holes for the both of them to use?
Mary I agree! I don't mind doing fiddly stuff but I think that would drive me crazy
Great granny squares Artydoll! Love the colours. I've just realised I'm not following your blog - you now have a new follower :T0 -
I love this thread, it makes me feel all warm and snuggly and now I'm on my lunch break I can read it properly - hurrah! Am being bad and buying a panini from the expensive shop as left my lunch at home - not very moneysaving!
This weekend, I'm going to try really hard to finish the scarf for my OH so I can free-up my needles. Have had a wonderful time on ebay looking at beads and wool.
I would quite like to invest in a sewing machine - nothing too fancy, just something so I can turn up trouser legs and for making cushion covers. Any of you lovely ladies have any recomendations?0 -
A friend of mine just bought a badge made from a domino - the front was painted and coated with resin, the back had a normal badge pin glued to it. Has anyone tried to do something like this? I'm not sure how to work with resin.... Anyone got good 'resin' advice?

I am making fleece throws for all my immediate family, 4 children + spouses and 6 grandchildren
My sons are having batman throws, I have bought black fleece then using a template I have cut out the yello part of the logo. The yellow has been pinned and then I used blanket stitch using yellow embroidery silk. Around the edge of the blanket I used yellow wool and did a blanket stitch. I am thrilled with the finished effect. Yes my family are all grown up but my sons will love these. Not decided on my girls blankets yet but for my 2 DIL's I have bought some fleece, light teal colour, then using brown, cream, white and turquoise fleece I have cut out various size flowers and put middles on the flowers with another colour. I have then sewn them on the blanket, scattered, once again using blanket stitch but this time using a contrast thread. For my oldest grandson I have made his fleece with planets, stars, and a rocket on a deep blue background.
Here is a link to a site that uses a similar idea but making ponchos.. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hiMpW6nqpHE/S0WDwqPVLBI/AAAAAAAAGUs/nyD3xQ0U_g4/s400/superheroponchos23.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.filthwizardry.com/2010_01_01_archive.html&usg=__D9zhjdN-iUnWsKbCKV026XeLd6U=&h=400&w=322&sz=23&hl=en&start=39&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=GQaVBFJKOADnSM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=100&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmake%2Bapplique%2Bfleece%26start%3D21%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26ndsp%3D21%26tbs%3Disch:1
