I think I did quite well....I went and did the late night reductions on Tuesday and came away with half a trolley full of veg, meat and bakery stuff all at 10p-50p reductions, presumably because most folk were waiting till Wednesday to buy last minute fresh stuff. I had full price shopping as well so can only guestimate the total of the reduced items ...probably about £15 and that was for about fifty items. I dropped some of the excess off with a neighbour who's pinned at home with two toddlers but we still had some very nice unplanned meals over the two days before Christmas and the freezers were full to bursting point. I didn't bother going on Thursday afternoon after that haul. No room for it anyway!

I too would like a list of this £1000 trolley at 10p an item if only to get a vicarious thrill from it! I think I'm pretty good at grabbing a regular supply of whoopsies but the above is Olympic Medal whoopsieing, lol!

Yes, it will be sold to staff, I work there and they hold a staff sale on xmas eve after the shop shuts to get rid of all the orders that haven't been collected etc.

I asked if they'd sell it to staff rather than waste and the guy said no, don't know if he knew the real answer or not though. I hope it doesn't go to waste.

I also asked about it going to charity and I was told no they stopped it as someone tried to sue them.... again if that's true or not, I have no idea.

    I JUST HATE WASTE.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I admire their efforts but there would be less need to recycle tho if they sold more YS stuff. It would also help theuir turnaround and sales figures. Our M&S has only just started to have YS stickers - think they had a snob attitude there but I hate waste and things going into a landfill etc.Personally I see nothing wrong with freeganism tho the powers that be see it and treat it as some sort of crime.

I know the staff have told me they no longer have the staff shop selling stuff near or past the date cheap. When I worked there they had one and you'd get things like the really expensive ready meals like £7 ones etc for less than £1.. I ate like royalty when I was there. Best food time of my life.

Nope. M&S still give articulated lorry loads of food away to a charity that packs it up and gives it in food parcels. I see the trucks every day when I am walking to work as they are in the same complex as my charity.

    Lemme have a look.

There you go. M&S give tones of stuff to that place. So, yes, you might not have gotten a platter of sandwiches at 50% off but someone in food poverty probably did get to enjoy them.

    Merry Christmas.

I was going to say - my church manages one of the branches of Fareshare, and we collect stuff from a number of M&Ss in my city (as well as loads of other superstores and independent shops) and distribute the food to homeless charities. Many people eat VERY well, thanks to M&S and other food retailers where I live!

But like many of these things, it depends on a charity being prepared to put in the time and run something like this. The branch we manage provides something like 4000 meals a week. :) </proud>

On a slightly different topic, I always used to appreciate my friend who worked at M&S and always provided me and others with lovely chocolate biscuits!

    :)
