Was well pleased with the supermarkets (yes I went to more then one!)

M&S (went in for some boxes of chocolates) had fresh kind prawns, £2 instead of £6, I love prawns and had this for dinner! They had loads of fresh veg with various butter/seasonings 50p to £2 instead of £2 to £7 packs and other slabs of meat- inclu a massive Smoked salmon pack for £7 down from around £25 I think, though annoyed they didn't reduce ANY of the fresh fruit most of which was sell by the 25th Dec. Am sure the staff will love this. Not massive % in discounts but some good stuff was reduced- stuff people actually wanted!

Tescos was even better, the £1.25 and £2 boxes fresh fruit was packed into about 5 large green crates for anything from 31p to 50p, 400gram strawberrys around 60p, the reducing man was going to reduce them further I think as there was just so much stuff but I was too shattered to hang around waiting- sensible man was taking away a few crates at a time to reduce behind the scenes then appearing 10 minutes later with all the stuff marked down. No veg reduced though - many many yogurts, sliced meat were all 75% plus makr downs and they were in stock for most items anyway- will be shopping there next year as they were so well stocked!

£1000 worth of food, in one trolley?

We had 2 trolleys filled to the brim, and that was £267 (don't ask!)

No way James, you're having us on LOL!!!

(You could always scan the receipt to prove to us doubters, I'm sure we would be able to work out the original prices ;))

They should give it to the homeless. It really is a disgrace.
They're not allowed due to Health and Safety Regulations. Companies can sign up to give food to charities but it's such a big operation and so many things that would have to be involved it's just not worth it, which is a shame. I think a lot of smaller, indepedent places (sandwich shops) do give their food to charities.

The food will go on 'waste' to sell to the workers in the supermarket after the store closes, and anything left over just goes into the bin. I used to work for M&S and you could get a sandwich, drink, crisps and desert for about 40p. Kept me amused on the bus journey home!
