HSsnowmen.gif Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Christmas Eve! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

HSlights.gifMorning OS lovelies!

Wooooohooooooooooo Father Christmas is on his way!

Christmas QOTD: "Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect." ~ Oren Arnold

Hester - How did the fudge making go and how is your husbands knee?
Taplady - I hope Janet feels better soon hugs.gif
Essex - Best NYE I ever had was at a friends party and when it all got too leery my OH and I slipped away and we drove to the beach and we walked along in the moonlight and saw the New Year in freezing to death watching the moon on the water. Probably the only time I have enjoyed it!
Lillibet - I was 15 when I went to Israel and had no money really so my nativity was crudely carved and not varnished, but I loved it and spent every penny I had on it. I will take a pic and post it.
Tru - What a nice thing you did for your friends! And chalk me up as someone who also prefers not to go out on NYE - all that forced jollity!
D&DD - hugs.gifThinking of you honey - have a good Christmas.
Catznine - The wedding sounds amazing!
Lamewolf - fun poem hon
Nic1 - sorry about the op, but pleased for you that you will be OK for Christmas day. And thank you for the kind comment.
Donnygal - Well done on the win!
So even if I forget something 'important' or don't get the mince pies made or the cake iced, we're going to have a fab Christmas with all my chicks in the one nest. :D I can't wait to see her!
Pink
This just sums up Christmas to me, doesn't matter if something we 'think' we need is forgotten, if you can be with the people you love then everything else is just a bonus.

xmastree.gif I am waiting on a book to arrive today. It was due yesterday but we didn't get any post at all as the posties couldn't deliver due to ice. Never known that before - even on snowy days they get here eventually. Anyway, hope it arrives today as my OH will have to deliver it tonight.

xmastree.gif Today I will do the sausage meat stuffing and finish the decorations. The tree is up and covered in lights and the mantlepeice is all set up beautifully. Plenty of holly from the garden and my nativity on top of the TV in pride of place. My OH will be working again this evening til around 0300 tomorrow so when he eventually gets back we will put the turkey in the oven on its side for a few hours. It's 9 kilos so a bit of a monster.

xmastree.gif Ok, so I hope everyones now has Christmas sorted and has a lovely day. To those of you who will have far better things to do than log on tomorrow - Have a WONDERFUL, peaceful and loving Christmas.

To those with friends or relatives serving abroad at this time of year, please know that we are all remembering them at Christmas and keeping them in our thoughts.

With love, light and festive good wishes...

  • Morning MSD, Ladygrim & all who cross or follow.
Nice to see you Diva, I hope you are not suffering with toothache & blow Tris a kiss from me.
Hubby's knee is still painful, as is his shoulder & wrist, well actually his knee was on the mend until he decided we needed our daily exercise, finding a comfortable position proved difficult & then I managed to lean on his bad knee during dismount, probably far TMI this time of the morning, lol.
The fudge turned out well, but it does need a lot of stirring & beating, still it looks & tastes like fudge, what more could I ask for.

I'm not sure if we will get the expected visit from the family as the promised rain & subsequent thaw hasn't materialised, still we will see. Everything is ready if they do make it, I shall make a lemoncurd cake & some twinks later.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning Diva and Ladygrim - have a great Christmas Eve! Mine is going to be the strangest Christmas because, sadly, I'm miles away from my boys and their lovely families; I am counting my blessings, though, that they are all happy and healthy, which is all any of us can wish for, isn't it? We're all looking forward to our second Christmas in January so I still have all that excitement! As we are spending tomorrow day and night with very good friends - and having dinner cooked for us - I'm sure we'll have a great Christmas. I will Skype everyone before we go so I will have seen and spoken to them all on 'the' day - thank heavens for Skype - how would I survive without it?

Not having to plan and shop for Christmas dinner is strange, too, but I will sure make the most of it - it's not everyone who will be having their meal cooked by two chefs, one English and one French!

Diva - did you get your tooth sorted? I haven't been on the thread for a few days so I'm not up to date with the latest news.

Well, OS-wise dinner tonight will be potato dauphinois with bacon bits and, probably, the French version of baked beans - like ours but not tomatoey enough so I shall add tomato puree to them.

DH has been making a new step outside the back door (which we use as the front door), and it's going to look really good. He's done the cement base and will be laying the old tomette tiles today. The old step was way too narrow and quite dangerous (for someone clumsy like me; I can trip over fresh air!), so it will be worth all the effort and working out in the cold weather. I'm glad he's doing it and not me. He's not had to ask me to help with this job; I just get asked my opinion every now and again.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day and that all your Christmas Eve plans go smoothly.

OK, at the risk of being even more off the OS topic than I normally am, I just had to post this.If it's taking up too much room I am fine with it being deleted, and my apologies in advance.

    Twas the night before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash,Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around,Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly,That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose,And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

MSD - hope the toothache stays away!

Just about to jump in the shower then head off to M&S for my last food bits, calling in at the turkey farm on the way home. Hope it isn't too crowded.

Then we are off to our mechanics to drop off their Xmas drink - only problem is they are right by Lakeside

Once home will be cooking my ham, making stuffing balls and writing a list for tomorrow. Did loads of cleaning yesterday but the hoovering still needs to be done.

Am now back on my laptop which seems to be working fine.

Best get off but if I dont manage to get back I would like to wish all you Ostylers a -

    I've been Money Tipped!
    :santa2:Good morning!

I found a bit of energy yesterday and now have 30 mince pies and a honey roast ham. So much to do today though! Trouble is I am spending far too much time looking at photos of the wedding!;) DH has offered to do some housework and ironing for me though I don't think he realises how much there is to do!:D

First the turkey torpedo joint (sourced cheaply for us by our pub landlord friend) I'm going to cook that up in the large slow cooker with a bit of stock and white wine in the crock. The little tower slow cooker (was my Mums) will have mulled wine in. DH got his own way so a joint of beef is also waiting to be done. Sounds like a lot of meat in one go but we slice it all up and freeze some away for later meals. Little Penny (our pooch) is going to be very happy with all the cooking aromas!

Sausage meat pie is next on the agenda, it has become a tradition to have this instead of sausage rolls! My lovely mil used to make this and it is a way of remembering her. All the veg needs prepping and I still have a trifle and some cookies to make! Must find the stockings and missing decs in the loft as well! Oh dear! Worn out thinking about it now! lol

Family will be here by teatime so need to decide what to make for them, might be a lasagne and salad. Once everyone is here we light all the candles, put Bing christmas songs on and open the sweeties!:rudolf:Then off to midnight mass for a wonderful carol service.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone and remember not to get stressed cos that is not what it is all about! Big (((hugs))) if you do though.

    Morning :santa2:
In my calendar - 'Santa's on his way' :snow_grin
I'm afraid all my Christmas spirit temporarily disappeared when we got to our friends' house - by the time we arrived they'd managed to get a babysitter for the day, hire a van and get two other friends to help (plus one of our friends, who offered to join us at the last minute). I thought "great, we can get this done quickly then help them put their tree up", til we walked into the house and saw that they hadn't actually packed anything  Mr tru had to go to the local shop for boxes. I started flinging things in boxes in no particular order, we got most of it moved, by 1pm I was totally peed off so we made our excuses and left. I'm not so wonderful really, am I? :o By the time we'd been to the doc's - just to pick up a prescription, but the doc decided he needed to see mr tru, there were no appointments so we just had to wait - and nipped to Aldi, it was almost 5pm. We threw the gammon in the oven when we got home, it was ready at 10pm

So, on to today :D It's party day today woohoo.gif Though if uninvited people turn up, [STRIKE]I might stab them [/STRIKE] I'll ignore the door :rotfl: I'll let all the piggies out for some exercise til about 9.30am and give their cages a good clean, then get the food into the oven. Might open some wine at the same time................lol.

    Have a great Christmas :rudolf::xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2::xmastree: :snow_grin :xmassign:

We are off to my moms and dads for christmas this year and i said that i would buy te turckey. Iv had a dear one as it needs to feed 6 adults and one set of twins.:j:j Also there should be enough left over for some currys and stir frys for a couple of days. My mom is buying a beef joint too.
