Just a quick post to say that we're all done with food shopping as DF went to Tesco while most normal people were snowed & iced in yesterday! All gifts are bought and wrapped - well the ones I have bought are, not so sure about DF but he is still insiting that the new car on order for delivery in February is my Christmas pressie! My sons are home tonight for a Christmas meal (roast beef rib joint - looks like something off the Flintstones! Methinks that for the next few weeks DF and I will be eating mainly cold roast beef ) then they buzz off back to their own lives while we have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to ourselves
We've got a few things to look forward to in 2010 - DS1 & DS2's girlfriends will both graduate AND turn 21, DS2 will graduate, my new car will be built and delivered and there are a couple of other things in the pipeline which I will share with you when things are more settled & agreed
Finally, I want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and safe New Year - may all your dreams come true and may everything turn out the way you wish.
Love,

Ok... after going back to sleep at around 0600, I was just woken by the phone and the dentists stroppy receptionist telling me that the dentist cannot get into work today as she lives in the middle of Dartmoor and is surrounded by sheet ice and cannot drive. She has no other dentists available and although they are open tomorrow said that unless I wake up in pain, not to bother ringing as even if the Dentist is in, they will be seeing emergency cases only. And right now I am not in pain.
Anyway - OH is off work today and decided to cook me some porridge as we are both up. He is following the instructions to the letter only decided as 40g of porridge each didn't seem enough he would double it up. So is now complaining that it uses too much milk!! I didn't have the heart to tell him that I use half milk half water.
Now he is also complaining he cannot find the golden syrup in the baking cupboard.. *sighs*. You wouldn't think this guy can serve up a roast dinner with all the trimmings without even blinking.
Ok, so the porridge mountain is about to be served.. Anyone want some, we have plenty?!!:rotfl:
Have a good day all!

I'll trade you some for a filo pastry mincemeat parcel a la Delia - DF makes them every year for me to take into work & they are sitting on my desk....don't think they will be there for very long!!0 -
Good Morning all, I too have had my oats this morning
(porridge that is ) its still very cold and icy here and I am hoping that a thaw will set in soon as I've such a lot to do today.I couldn't go for my Manual Lymph Drainage massage this morning as my clinic is in the back of beyond out in the countryside. The side roads here are very bad but the main roads seem to be o.k. Its just getting to them thats the problem.Still I have been busy and have got a wash done which I will take to my DDs for sticking in her TD.Don't like to use it often, but in Christmas week I can't be doing with having wet washing hanging about.Only have a couple of small bits to but in the local shop, milk, batteries ect No need to go to the big supermarket and get pushed about and trodden on.I shall be too-ing & fro-ing between DDs over Christmas so don't need much indoors at all. I give them both some cash to help out with their food shopping which is easier than me trailing around buying it in .I usually end up with half of their left overs anyway after Christmas which I put to good use.
Tomorrow morning I make a huge batch of sausage rolls, about 5 dozen, and mince pies, and they share them between them.We will all be together on Christmas night for a family party ,about 20 odd grown-ups ,kids and assorted boy & girlfriends so they go down quite well.
Right time to get a wriggle on ,keep warm and well wrapped up if you go out and try to stay in an upright position:rotfl:
Cheers JackieO x0 -
Morning all,
Diva, Sorry to hear the dentist was cancelled but at least you have no pain.
Hester, I hope dh's knee feels better today.
tru, What you are doing to help your friends is lovely and in the true spirit of Christmas.
Aussie, I hope you'll at least get to speak to Dgs on Christmas day. :kisses3:
Legalblonde, Welcome!
Lowesy, Congratulations on your news!
Catznine, Great to see you posting! I'm glad the wedding went well.
Haribo is still offline, but sends you all her love. The latest date BT have given for sorting out the connection is today, but we aren't holding our breath!
I think I've got Christmas licked!DD is at uni but has a part-time job in a restaurant. She was supposed to be working up until today and flying home tomorrow but with the weather as it is (freezing fog and snow forecast tomorrow) and flights being cancelled left right and centre, we thought it safer if she was to get the ferry today instead. We were ready to book it last night but couldn't until she'd cleared it with her boss. Typically she couldn't get hold of him and when she did the ferry was full. Cue much panic. So all of us were up at 5am this morning to try get her on standby. And now she's on the ferry! :j It will be worth every penny to get her home, but she will never, ever, ever, be allowed to book the last flight on Christmas Eve home again! :rotfl:
So even if I forget something 'important' or don't get the mince pies made or the cake iced, we're going to have a fab Christmas with all my chicks in the one nest.I can't wait to see her!
So far this morning, dd's bedding is in the washing machine, wheaten bread is in the oven, and bolognese sauce is defrosting to make (dd's favourite meal) lasagne. Going to poke the boys soon to get their bedding off and washed next. I might try to have a nap at some stage to catch up on some sleep, then just a bit of cleaning to do in dd's room, some windows to wash and once we collect dd this evening we're going to friends for Christmas drinks.
I hope everyone else is having as happy a day as I am!

Me me me, was just trying to decide if I could be bothered to make porridge. I'm a bit more abstemious, I do about 30g (unless my hand slips) made with water and with skimmed milk on it!
We have the dentist this morning. DD is a bit of a phobic, so not looking forward to that. She's taking the car and going into work after dropping me home. She has some fixed hours at the surgery supplying cover reception and secretarial duties, then in the other hours updates the surgery database with new patient details. Means she's earning in Uni hols.

Morning all....((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) if you need one.
FINISHED!!! Just got back from a manic Tesco, last minute stuff finished.....fridge chocka block.......freezer pretty full.
When I went to Tesco just before 8am they were streaming out with loaded trolleys, I wondered how much of it was going to end up in the bin!!! The girl on our checkout said when she got in at 7am they were queuing 10 deep at the checkouts. A lot of empty shelves and not much sign of them getting filled. Note to self go on 22nd next year!!!
I cannot make my mind u about getting a new laptop, I did abit of research on the internet. I might just wait and see what offers there are in the sales. I am not keen on intel prefer AMD.....not easy to find with large memory at a reasonable price.
JUst having a sit down before putting the gammon on to cook.....eeekkkk something else to put in the fridge, think I will have to brave the cold and clean out the garage fridge and put some stuff in there. I have the turkey crown de-frosting in the fridge, want to cook it tomorrow, so will take it out and leave it to come to room temerature when we go to bed tonight, then I can cook it tomorrow.
OH has gone off to play bowls so have a couple of hours to myself. Want to clean the sitting room, will leave the kitchen till tomorrow after supper.
Offsky for a cup of coffee.......Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

Morning everyone.
Bah one of the items I sold on Ebay I have managed to mark with permament pen after it was in the envelope  Lady in question is going to send me pics but I can only really offer her a full refund - bit cross with myself as it was one of the more expensive items I sold  B*gger......
Heading up to local Boots store this morning to get some Royal Jelly hand cream - my hands are so dry and my thumb has a small split in the end of it. I wear gloves outside etc but despite using some of the kids oilatum, double base and even aqueous cream my hands are still really dry. I used some of my mums Royal Jelly and it worked so off to get some of my own.
Oooh postie just been. I bought a copy of The tightwad Gazette from ebay for just under £6 with free postage (:T) and it's just come.......I must promise not to read it now or we'll never get anything done today :rotfl:
Not sure about tea tonight - I still have some wrapping to do. One minute I feel organised and then the next I don't.
My swiss roll won't roll  The mixture must be too much for the pan as it won't roll without cracking. Still I shall just cut it in half and sandwich with butter cream - shall still get eaten all the same :rotfl:
I really had better get a move on.
Diva - hope tooth doesn't play up over Xmas for you. Glad you had a good rest and sorry that Tris is feeling overwhelmed.
LegalBlonde - Welcome :j
Essex & Sunnygirl - I too loathe New Year......I mean I don't "get" what the fuss is about celebrating another end to the year. It's just another reminder that I shall be another year older, another year stuck in the Midlands - glass half empty anyone? :rotfl:
Taplady - Hope Janet's infection clears up soon xx
catznine - your son's wedding sounds magical - lots of pics please
Have a good day OS or not.
Hugs to those that need them. Check in a bit later.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
