HSsnowmen.gif Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 23rd December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Christmas QOTD: May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through! ~ Author Unknown

Nic1 - Hope you get your op done today hon
Penpin - So sorry to hear you haven't been too well and hope you have a lovely Christmas with your friends and family.
Celyn - it must be a horrible situation for you and your husband - sending supportive vibes to you honey.
Halight - hope the little one is better soon
Zippy - Hope your last day wasn't too traumatic

xmastree.gifthankyou.gifto those who mentioned missing me - Sunny was kind enough to pass on the messages, and I was touched. I am very sorry I haven't read any of the threads except to skim through yesterdays just a min ago so very out of date with the news. I am talking to Tris at the moment, he is feeling a bit overwhelmed with things right now but hoping Christmas will cheer him up.

xmastree.gif Off to the dentist this morning - finally. It's such a palaver getting there and the pain hasn't come back but I am not risking it. I have been using that Colgate toothpaste that is supposed to stop sensitivity and by jove it appears to have worked better than I thought it would.

xmastree.gif I am still hopelessly behind schedule for Christmas. Dex ARE out of the loft but not up yet although the mantlepiece and sideboard are semi-cleared. I have to get my wooden nativity out that I bought back from Israel when I was 15 or it just won't be Christmas. Have made another batch of mince pies as the in-laws will be over on the 27th so will have the frozen ones defrosted then and my OH can nibble the fresh batch as much as he likes this week. Also made some sausage rolls which turned out fantastically using Delias method to make shortcrust pastry.

xmastree.gif Well, had our Tescos order delivered yesterday so I think that is about it for Christmas food now which is a relief. Everything we ordered, arrived, not even one substitution which was unusual but great!

Ok, so I hope everyones day goes well and that you all stay warm and cosy. With love, light and festive felicitations for all and a big Wooooohoooooooo, Santa is nearly here!!

  • Morning Diva & all who cross & follow.
    Lovely to see you Diva.
    PP have a lovely break.
I've been up since 4 so I'm hoping to get another snooze in later. Hubby took a tumble in the snow yesterday & his knee has blown up like a balloon, still he would insist on going to meet BIL's for a drink.
Plans for today include making fudge & making a semi prepped Christmas dinner for DD1 who's been snowed in where she works & has been able to get any shopping. She is also working Christmas Day so I think if I make her a Christmas 'ready meal' it will make her lif a little easier.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Thanks for all the 'good lucks' :D Mr tru can now drive at night again. He has another appointment in three weeks time, but we're not worried anymore, his eye should be fine.

We're supposed to be at home today, just the two of us, peace and quiet - it's the only day we can manage it. But we've found ourselves roped in to help friends move house. It's my fault really, they have a 12 month old baby, no help from anyone and a tiny van, I felt sorry for them. I've also feel like I've been forced into going to a new year's eve party, I'm dreading it cos I hate them. I'm looking forward to january, I'm going to lock myself away for a month  :D

Hester - what a lovely thing to do :A

Tru - Glad Mr Tru is on the mend

Diva - Good luck at the dentist today (finally!)

Well I've been up since 4.30am  Our local M&S opens at 7.00am, so going to pop out in a little while and buy the last 2 vouchers I need to get before the mayhem begins.

Tesco delivery later, fingers crossed everything arrives - then I think that's everything done!

I'm cold - I got up before the heating came on, it's on now though, just starting to warm up :D

    Have lovely days everyone

    Morning everyone,

We've had some wild weather as well. Big storm last night and lots lost power but thankfully we didn't. Had some rain this morning which was lovely. It's back to being humid again though. That's the weather report out the way. :D Been busy in the kitchen most mornings as this is when it's the coolest. I'm getting DGS again next Wednesday and he'll stay a week before I return him.

I've got things pretty much under control here regards Christmas. Think this has been our quietest one since we got married. DGS has made it all that more special the last few but he won't be here this year.

Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those that need them. Byeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning all

Cold and frosty here but thankfully no snowfall over night. Very quiet evening last night had a fav pasta dish for dinner, then did all the wrapping that needed to be done, so have now really broke the back of the Xmas preparations.

I finish work today at lunchtime, will come home get changed quick bite of lunch, collect the children and go over to see my friend who is heavily pregnant, she said she would drive to me but as the roads are not good, I wasn't happy for her to do that with her "bump"!

Will need to crack on with washing, drying and ironing also another go through the house and get our bag packed for going away so I'm not running around like a headless chicken at last minute!

Once I have collected the meat hamper in the morning I will make sausage rolls with the lovely fresh sausage meat, and make the stock for the gravy with the giblets etc.

Have one or two more card deliveries to make so will do that tomorrow too. OH really tired but grateful just a couple more days to go then he's off to Monday 4 Jan!

Have to go and crack on now.

Take care those in the snow. Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning All

    Hello again Diva

Tru - what a nice thing to do. I am managing to avoid all New Years Invites at the moment, I absolutely hate going out on New Years eve - now if I was invited to a Midsummer Party that would be different. I hate the thought that you feel like you have to enjoy yourself when nearly every New Years eve I have had out I couldn't wait till 12 so I could go home. Well thats my bah humbug moan over :rotfl:

Shouldn't really be on here as have sooo much today. Just about to thow some old trackies on and start the housework. Think I may need to pop out to pick up DD's school bus ticket for next term but won't be doing that till the roads defrost as its so slippery out there at the moment.

OH is not working tomorrow so we are picking up the turkey and veg early in the morning.

Best get on - am cleaning the cooker hood, hob & oven doors first then hitting the bathrooms - stardrops at the ready.......wish me luck.x

    Morning all

MSD nice to see you back.

DD was under the weather all day yesterday and looked quite sorry for herself and had a good sleep at lunch time and woke up in much better form afterwards.

DS-D and DS-S finished school at 12 yesterday so DS-D and DD helped put together the gift bags from them to the outlaws and we wrapped up the pressies for DS-D's Mum.

I got my 'proper' wages in today :j which means its all systems go...although I'm at work all day and I started last night with a cold so I'm not feeling great but I don't have time to be sick! I'm going to call at Asda to pick up something for my cold on the way to work and if its not too busy i'll pick veg up while i'm there. I figure its cold enough for the veg to sit in the car boot all day without any problems

I still have some presents to wrap which I will do tonight and my kitchen needs a good tidy but I might bribe DS1 to do that as he is off today .

I am looking forward to the moment when I can say 'Right that's me done!' and get on with enjoying Christmas!

    Have a good day

    Good morning :D

Diva Wonderful to see you back! Good luck at the dentist's today I hope they sort it out for you. I have a nativity scene too that was my Nana's so it is very special. It always feels like Christmas when it's up.

Very cold & icy here today  The heating has been on for half an hour but it's not making much difference yet. We are going shopping soon for the normal food shop & a few things extra for Christmas meals. I have to brave going into town as I need a particular shop for some chutney. Hopefully the cold will be putting everyone off although I doubt it :rotfl: Then once we're home we'll batten down the hatches for a few days of family time :T

I am another who hates going out on New Years Eve so won't be bothering. I'm just as happy to stay in, in the warm, and have a quiet evening.

Lunch today will on the hoof so no idea what yet although DH will want a chilli beef pasty and tea tonight is soup leftover from yesterday's lunch.

Had a bad headache last night so didn't catch the thread but (((hugs))) to all needing one & have a good day xxx
  • Morning all:j
Diva - nice to see you back! Donkeys years ago, in another lifetime, I worked on cruise ships and also brought back a wooden nativity scene from Bethlehem. Cost about $75 dollars back then which seemed a fortune to a 21-year old. I had dreams about getting it out each Christmas for my future children to 'ooh' and 'aah' over - AND THEY DO:T
Essex - I'm glad I'm not the only one to hate New Years Eve. I don't 'do' late nights anyway, let alone staying up 'til 12:eek: As soon as the 'bongs' are over I'm home away to my bed.

Still very, very icy here. The car will need kettles of water just to get the doors unlocked. Need to pop out to Mr. T's to get the last few bits and will also get the turkey from the local farm shop. Then I can say 'that's me done [STRIKE]in[/STRIKE]'
I couldn't sleep much last night (don't know why - that last glass of port should have done the trick:o) so was reading through the Down-to-Earth pages. I love Rhonda's way with words and love hearing about her family - human and feathered/furred! I'm all fired up now to de-clutter again and simplify ..... just got to get Christmas out of the way first:rotfl:

Stay safe everyone and have a good day.

this is my first ever post in the "dailies" so hope you don't mind me saying hi. I think I am actually getting addicted to this website, as I have said in some other threads I was meant to be going home to my mum sunday - xmas eve but due to snow I missed my flight so have been feeling a little lost! But feeling much more normal today and cleaning entire kitchen last night made me realise i have been given the gift of more time!!!

Also I don't feel like I got up too early now seeing the times on your threads!!! Every day I struggle to get out of bed for work at 8.15 (I am 26 but sound about 16!) but over last few days I wake at 7.00 on the dot and start thinking about what i need to do....typical. Today's plan:

    1. [STRIKE]Get turkey leg out of freezer (yes it is a tesco value £1.47 one, it is just the two of us and tesco were sold out of the £5 frozen joint at the time)[/STRIKE] done. replace with - eat a nice hot breakfast. I am in xmas mode already. Been up since 7 and so far consumed only quality street!:rotfl:
    2. Do lots of washing and drying - I want to see the bottom of the washing basket by tomorrow!
    3. Tidy up living room etc make it more xmassy - as I was meant to be leaving on Sun me and OH just stuck up xmas tree and left everything in a bit of a mess.
    4. Wait in for parcels (luckily live just out of city centre and deliveries not been that affected by snow)
    5. Go xmas shopping for OH gifts (was meant to be doing this with my mum!)
    6. Wrap tonight while he is at work and bake some cookies.

I hope you all have a lovely day, I am sure I will be on here most of the day!!!!
