sorry should have elaborated that I've had the same MW throughout whole pregnancy (though she wasn't working the night of the birth) plus a student MW that was there whole pregnancy AND the birth. I know I was lucky!!

I did not get my midwife a present, although I did have the same one and she was nice enough. I didn't get my health visitor one either (although I did pay for her dinner when she got engaged years ago - I knew her now husband!!)0

We have an Egg too, although I never really classed it as a light until now. I would have said H slept in the dark, but I suppose that does give off a bit of light.
As I expected to be doing feeds during the night, I got DH to put dimmers in all of the rooms. When she was just home from hospital we were waking her during the night for feeding so just used the main lights on dimly. We also have touch lights at our bedsides (but I hate them as I keep accidentallly nudging them and they are super-sensitive!)
Well done Daniel for letting mummy know that you wanted to poo and not doing it in the bath! :T
I have the egg rigged up on the crib so he looks like a little illuminated baby Jesus. Its usually on yellow/orange/red but when it goes blue its like a bl00dy floodlight!
