Buttons, I think hes being a bit of a to$$er, but everyone else is right. He can make a claim off his own insurance and they will claim the money they deem reasonable from the council. As a tennant you only have to have contents insurance as all buildings, including the boiler, are covered by either landlord or council.
If he asks for your details again, tell him you want to take a photograph of the damage so that you can cover yourself in any event, see what he thinks then !!
You will have no excess to pay as its not your cover

Someone keep me posted with what time peeps are meeting at Piccadilly station (send me a PM, I'll lose it if it's buried in this thread). Who knows, I might make it - in which case it'd be a train into Picc for me too, then out on either tram/bus or just bus.

We had this happen to us, but from the being-the-people-downstairs perspective. (Except I didn't go barging in and shouting my mouth off ) We had to claim on the council's insurance. Not that we have actually spent the money on fixing the ceiling of course. Still have a manky ceiling that needs fixing, and now I can't remember which plasterer came to quote for it to call him and come fix it. We need the kitchen doing too, and they are all so busy with bigger jobs no-one will even come and do a quote.
