I don't have sugar, therefore have no worries of the bag taking any out of the tea... I'm a milk after removing the bag kind of person, I'm trying to beat that into my hubby... He's a milk with bag before water type... But then he only drinks cherry coke...

Know what I can't stand? People who feel the need to squeeze my teabag with their fingers... I don't stick my fingers in their drinks so why do they have to do it to mine?!

In a mug/cup - tea bag, water, stir and remove bag - sugar (if people want it), stir - milk, stir.

In a pot - one bag for each person plus one over, water, stir and let stand a few minutes

Then, with sugar - sugar in cups first - pour in tea, stir - add milk, stir.

No sugar - milk goes in the cup before pouring in the tea, no stirring required.

I don't take sugar but my ex's family all do and are convinced the sugar doesn't dissolve the same if you don't stir it in before the milk.

Putting the milk in with the tea bag requires a lot of stirring and squeezing of the bag as it stops the tea brewing properly imo.

Imho tea tastes better when made in a teapot.

Teabag and sugar (splenda in my case!) in mug together. Add boiling water, let it brew. Add milk and squeeze then take teabag out. Lovely cup of tea every time :)

Regarding the milk, I think that it should be added after the water has been added - otherwise it cools down the water too much and you don't get as good an infusion. My parents use teapots but they like their tea very weak (they think one teabag is plenty for about three people) but I only use a teapot when I'm making tea using just tealeaves. I'm all for the 20-second cuppa method: Bag in mug, hot water in, stir around, add milk, squeeze bag out on side of mug with spoon and then throw away bag.

It always amazes me that something that has so few ingredients can taste so different depending how you make it! Is there anything else that varys so much?

We have a tea club at work and there are just some people that cant make a cup of tea to save their lives.
I also think that if you put sugar in when the bag is in you lose some of the sugar when you take the bag out.

Anyway its time for a cuppa!!

The difference in taste all depends on what brand of tea bags you use as well. At work we have Typhoo or Tetley (can't remember which) and they are as weak as anything. We have PG at home and they are a completely different taste, (mmm lovely).

did you know, tea and coffee should not be made with fresh boiling water as boiling water can actually burn the tea/coffee and affect the taste?
the "pro" way to make black coffee is to put a splash of cold water in before the boiling, the same for tea! using water that isnt quite at boiling point, or boiled a couple of minutes beforehand, also achieves the desired effect :D

i just bung it all in the cup, milk sugar and tea bag, then the water, i like it weak as anything anyway!

With tea you have to use boiling water to get the taste out of the tea. Tea make from hot water like you get in all these silly coffee chains is rubbish and its due to the lack of boiling water.

It's true that coffee should be made with water at around 90 degrees (that's the temp an espresso machine will heat the water to) but I believe that tea needs boiling water otherwise the infusion won't work properly.

    eurgh, you are all gross.

It's hot water and tea bag. No sugar or milk.

Actually, more often than not, it's hot water and coffee :D

"Black" - no milk, no sugar, just tea. If you add milk then it changes the taste (and I detest milk anyway). I will occasionally (once in a blue moon) add brown sugar to black coffee but not tea. No one messes with my tea. :)

I take it back, the rest of them are gross :D
