I have offered to rewire a plug-in frying pan for mum.
Would i be right in thinking the blue is neutral the brown is earth, and the yellow/green is live? She says this is circa about 60 years old (sunbeam) but i think she has got it wrong and it is from the 70s

if you think the yellow/green wire is the live wire - then you should NOT be wiring a plug up....
But if you REALLY insist and are not going to take the advice then
Yellow/green - EARTH!
Brown - Live
Blue - Neutural0 -
Is this thread is a wind-up? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Are you sure you ought to be connecting a 30+ year poduct to the National Grid if it hasn't been so connected for some years? TBH I'm not. If it is that old it won't have flex core colours of brown, blue and green/yellow. So is it just a plug you are rewiring?
Oh - on the off chance that it isn't:
like this with current standard colour flex:

Am I the only one who thinks we should be encouraging ( and educating ) anyone who wants too learn how to wire a plug .
To many , don't know the correct way .
Thought this was a DIY forum.
Ps the frying pan is never as old as 60 /40 years !!0 -

Yes we should, but I don't think we should be encouraging people to use really old things, and who fries anything nowadays?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -

You might be surprised! Equipment flex has conformed to brown/blue for a longtime - much longer than the European harmonisation for fixed installs. Anything manufactured for use across Europe has used brown/blue flex for donkey's now! I have a 30+ year old (non steam) iron I use for edge banding and that has brown/blue flex (albeit cotton covered!)0 -
this must be a wind up!
pre 1977 it was red - live. black - neutral. and green - earth.
1977/2004 it was the same red and black, but the earth was changed to green/yellow.
to date it is, brown - live. blue - neutral. green/yellow - earth.
if the pan is 30 (or even 60) years old it wont have the modern wiring colors.Get some gorm.0 -
That is wrong, and if you wire up a plug like that, you will kill someone!Cinnamon09 wrote: »I have offered to rewire a plug-in frying pan for mum.
