The weather and the recession.

  • I have no doubt that the weather has played havoc with GDP.

The Daily Express is forecasting a million pounds a minute will be spent today.

Nobody should underestimate the impact the last week before X-Mas has on retail and leisure spends, which make up a large part of GDP.

I don't think anyone here does.

I went out yesterday to get some last minute booze, about 3PM, and although busy it was no more or less busy than the average Saturday afternoon. I got parked quite easily and served relatively quickly.

I hope for everyones sake it has been a good Xmas in the shops after all. The shops need it and people need to enjoy their time off work.

Sometime after the 'thaw' began, it rained a bit, then skies cleared, so we woke up to -4C this morning and the worst roads yet!

LOL. I'm still looking out of my window. Still won't be able to go anywhere. Rang my dad who's pretty much the same, allbeit on a main road that gets gritted, so a lot better off.

More rain overnight it seems which has frozen solid on the other stuff we had. Might have to go for a walk again, sick of being stranded.

I even thought about catching a bus, aint done that in years, but apparently the bus service is off and I'd have to walk 2 miles to get to the stop that it is going to, so figured 2 miles in this ice isn't worth it.

Hopefully today it will actually warm up. Was supposed to yesterday but never did.

OK, found a nother nuts thing with gritters.

I had my weekly dr's check up this morning and the car park (on a slight slope) is the town car park is lethal. There is a half full box of grit there.

I asked in the dr's surgery if it were ok to spread the grit, at least around the disabled spaces and they have been told they aren;t allowed to, nor are they allowed to agree to other people doing it.

DH is working from home today :) and came into the town with me, and while I was in with the doctor he decided to go and spread some grit around the disable spaces and across the road to the surgery.

It's true. They will be allowed to grit their own entrances, at their own risk, but not public places. It's all because of people sueing the council and pretty much anyone else they can sue for slipping over.
