BT told me by emailWhenever we make any change to our service structure, it is done while keeping in mind that majority of our customers benefit with this change.0

I rang up BT asking to be released from my 12 month comittment.
They said that all contracts have a 12 month sapn, and that I would have to pay a termination charge. They didn't accept the 'material disadvantage bit'.
Interested to know if anyone has managed to get out of their 12 month committment onto only a monthly one so that a change to O2 can be a bit easier.0 -
Searcher2 - I wasn't questioning your choice to end the contract on April 1st, just highlighting that it is possible to end it earlier if you choose. :-)
I wasn't taking it as a criticism - I appreciate that someone has dumped BT successfully and posted about it. I was going to cancel immediately like you did but for me there is little point until the O2 offering is up and running so I thought I would see if I could keep on BT until 1st April..... if not I will do as you did and pay the extra for a short while. Thanks!0 -
And, if they choose to vary the terms you signed up for, e.g. the changes announced for 1 April, that's tough too.
Incorrect. Although their terms and conditions make mention that you can cancel, this has nothing to do with their terms and everything to do with contract law.
Should the supplier seek to make a change to a contract you agreed which materially disadvantages you, you may cancel that contract without penalty.
You are not "asking to cancel". You are informing them of a cancellation. The supplier cannot say no.0 -

I'd suggest that is nonsense.0 -
Just called and got through to customer retention and they said I can revert to my free weekend plan and not have a 12 month term. If I want eve and weekends and not 12 month term it costs £2.99.
To arrange for this on 1st April had to go to Cust servics - they said I counldn't but I quoted the clause and have been changed over from the 1st April.0 -
Where BT goes other providers are bound to follow.0

What? With a bewilderment of call plans, poor customer service and foreign call centres? I certainly hope not.
O2 is the first mobile operator I have had (having had 3, T-Mobile and Orange) that I would choose to stay with. Their broadband service has far eclipsed my previous Pipex which cost twice as much. I would say that based on this experience all services are NOT equal.0
