I'm sure he will be offended at that. Bill has been on a diet for some months now and lost almost a stone.

Is it only Fords that have the heated front windscreen? As in similar to the way the rear windows are heated?

Ford has the patent on heated front windscreens. Other manufacturers can fit them but they have Ford's consent and pay them for the privilege, which is why you don't often see them on non-Fords.

All I do is get a towel and run it under some luke warm water.

Nothing too extreme that may crack the screen.

Just the jets that are frozen, don't worry they'll be fine when it thaws, or pour warm water over them, not the screen. No need to worry big fat Bill;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Just wanted to say many thanks for those offering advice in this thread, as someone with a diesel car that takes up to 10 minutes to heat up, and is far too lazy to clear the garage so the car will fit in it, this thread has been incredibly useful :)

It's supposed to be freezing this weekend, so thought I'd just give the thread a bump in case anyone else is in a similar position!

Interesting that newer Fords have a heated front screen too, was considering either an Audi or a Ford, but that's a big tick in the Ford box :D

I've heard that rubbing a sliced onion on the windscreen prevents icing. No idea as to the truth of it or what the car would smell like afterwards.

I thought a spud or an onion was to prevent internal misting... i doubt it would have any effect on the external frost, however I also doubt it would be a good idea to put it on the inside as it will surely need claeaning anyway before driving...

    For the OP,
I say use an old carpet overnight on the windscreen, if not possible or you forget, then a copious amount of cold water not warm or hot will do. and use the wipers or a squeegee to wipe it all off, otherwise it re-freezes.
