  • The trick I use is warm water with some winter windscreen wash in it. Gives the warm water a bit more oomph. .

whatwill they do with a heavily frosted windscreen?

    My thoughts exactly.

So all you folk who are concerened about your tax disc I do hope you go out every two hours to ensure the screen is clear.

But for goodness sake don't forget about the children!!

  • If you are lucky enough to have access to a garage why not use it for it's intended purpose?

I have not had to scrape or defrost my windscreen first thing in the morning for the last 10 years..... Even with an unheated garage there is enough residual warmth in the glass to keep it clear until the car's heaters warm up.

Most of the time i use de-icer, it's not that often i have to go out early enough for my car screen to be frosty, or sometimes I get a emty coke bottle, fill it with warm watter and fairy up liquid, start car, put water on, then wack the wipers on full wack and add more water, jobs done well quick.

Haven't read all of this thread but just a word of warning. Do not leave your engine running with the key in the ignition while you engine warms up and your windscreen defrosts while you pop back in your house for a cup of tea. Your car could easily be stolen by passing thieves who are looking out for this opportunity and if it is stolen under these circumstances your insurance company WILL NOT PAY UP.

Have you tried the pre-icer the night before? Buy this from many shops, spray on the night before if frost is threatening, and simply use your wipers to clean the thin film of frost. If the frost is thick a quick scrape is all it neds.

Don't use fairy. It contains salts and other nasties, it will discolor the paint and it also destroys the rubber window seals/wiper blades in time.

That's why it is worth reading so you don't repeat things ;-)
Tis only two pages, hardly an epic.
