Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 19th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Started out - typed this whole big message and decided it didn't really portray what I wanted to (it read as sad and tear provoking instead of inspiring and thought provoking) . So I got rid of that. *Shakes head* :D

I have had a long day! Went present wrapping again until 7, walked home from town, called to see a friend and had leftovers for dinner. I need to stop eating so much and get out and exercise more! More of these ---->:j:j:jbike.giftreadmill.gif

Today I have loads to do , make bread, wrap presents, probably clean more, buy cheese, toilet roll, clean the oven (and i wont have to keep challenging myself to cook with the microwave) , ummm , oh do my last day at work, and then maybe have a drink to celebrate/comiserate? Plus more, this is just what comes to mind instantly.

Anyway, I am in pretty good spirits
and hoping you are all enjoying your Christmas journey.I am actually looking forward to the big day, especially after today. I think it will be really nice to just sit and appreciate things. My Mum goes al out for Christmas and spoils us rotten - I have picked loads from her but know there will be loads of surprises.

So, I am finding I am in Christmas mode. I ate a whole chocolate orange last night (when else would I do that?), but it's ok as it was over a couple of hours :rotfl:26.gif33.gif116.gif

Tuesday brings last day at work
, trip to the wool shop, then digesting that I am now redundant etc. I'm really excited about going to the wool shop. I have instructions from the lovely knitting thread.

Going to have another rum
and keep listening to Disney music I think. Gosh, is that all I typed? Flips sake, I thought I typed much more than that

Happy OS day to all. I sprinkle some fairy dust on you all :Dtinkerbell-246.gif

Edit - my stuff to do sounds pathetic. Let me assure you there is much more. Plus, I said hi to Diva! Rest up honey!

Haribo, come back , leave the chickens , they are fine!

Edit - worried as I am sniffly. This time last year I had flu which knocked me off my feet, and I really don't have time for that right now. I have too much to do!:o If flu sets in, the fibro goes mad.

Oh yes, one more. I am going to make this! :jCheck it out. Kitty will love it.

Morning all.............((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) if you need one.

OH woke me up snoring and then the heating started creaking, so turned the boiler off and made a cuppa, wide awake so on the lappy for a while till I am ready to sleep again.

Not sure what the weather is doing, we were forecast a heavy snow fall after 3am, will have to wait a bit for that then.

Broadband playing up keeps dropping the connection, blooming thig, but I have a wireless dongle, so use that........handy......I actually got it when we moved, we were without a connection for almost 2 months thanks to sky messing up. I could not afford to be without a connection as we do all our banking on line, need to keep a close eye on that.

Bread made last night ready for grandchildren invasion later today. I have to go and pick them up from the station, they live 30 miles away from us. I am just hoping the snow does not stop them coming, otherwise they will have no parcels for Santa!!! They are all here waiting to be delivered.

We will be eating at lunchtime, so sausage and mash with apple crumble to follow.......OH and I will have something on toast for tea, no supper tonight.

Tomorrow I need to be up early and away to Tesco befor the hoards decend.....
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

  • Good gracious, am I first up this morning,if so Good Morning everyone.I am trying to find a train time for this morning from my local station .I am due to meet up with my friend in London today as we are going to the theatre to see La cage aux Folles. Her husband is delayed in Spain, so can't get back to England and she has a spare ticket.not being one to waste anything fingers crossed I'm off to the big city this morning
I went to my local station to ask train times last night on the way home from my DD's (I had been Granny sitting with the kids) eventually found a human being on the station and when I asked he said 'your guess is as good as mine, who knows if they will be running tomorrow .Apparently there was some difficulty on the main lines last night because of the weather. Now I live around an hour from central London and in a fairly busy commuter belt of Kent.Today apparently Southernrail are starting a Saturday service instead of normal service as the weather is bad!!! :eek:Thank god I don't live in a really cold country or there would be no trains at all:rolleyes: What is the matter with the rail service ( not a good description, as service it ain't)
So I shall walk around to the station at just after 9.00.a.m. and see if its possible to get a train from north Kent to London a journey of just under an hour. The snow is fast melting here, and a lot better than in some spots of the country I know.I am still trying to work out why they are starting a Saturday service on a Tuesday:confused:
Oh well, mine not to reason why I guess. No wonder foreigners get confused in the UK
The boys and I made some crackers yesterday and they decorated them with lots of christmassy bits I had taken round there in my crafting bag.
Everything is organised at the moment in Chez JackieO's house for a change, but watch this space as things have a nasty habit of going wrong when least expected.Right, I'm off to have my shower and wash the barnet (full of glitter stuff from yesterday) Hope everyone has a good day and gets everything done
    Cheers everyone

Mr tru has a hospital appointment at 8.30am. He wasn't allowed to drive after the last one (the eye drops made his vision blurry and his pupils were dilated) so we're getting the bus at 7.50am. We need a couple of things from Boots so we'll get those on the way home if his eyes aren't too bad. If they are, I'll have to come home with him then catch the bus back in. Hope it's not the same as before, we couldn't even put a light on in the house for 24 hours because it was too painful.

So I don't really know what I'm up to today til he's had his tests :D

To top it all my laptop has crashed again so an nicking DS' at the moment so I really need to get it to the repair shop. Aaaahhh.

Hope to make stuffing balls today but really dont know if I will have the time.

A lot of our snow has gone but a couple of drivers didnt get back to the depot yesterday till 9pm because of the chaos on the roads. My friends daughter works at Bluewater - left work at 5pm and was still trying to get out of the carparkk at 6.30  Hope you can get a train sorted Jackie.

    Have a great day.x

    Morning everyone

Foggy and icy outside. Am just sneaking a couple of mins on here while waiting for some muffins to cook. They are for work. Mincemeat ones that I got from a recipe on here.

I did have a choclate cream sponge left over from Sunday that I was going to take in yesterday but decided, cream sponge + slipping over = nasty mess, methinks muffins will be far more forgiving if I slip over, I am hopeless on icy pavements.

Then a quick whizz round, shower and off to work, going to be a busy day today so will need to get my head down.

Have a good day everyone x

    Morning all

Dark, cold and still frosty here, had quite a lot of snowfall during the night but temperature must have risen slightly because it's not settled and in places started to thaw. OH had a nightmare day yesterday as had work left that couldn't be done last Friday and Saturday so just had to do his best, his van got stuck four times, twice he dug himself out and twice his was towed - ho hum but he got home safely - the most important thing!

House is really quiet as we are "childless" at the moment, it's nice every now and then, the hairdresser came last night and commented on how quiet it was without the children, not sure whether to be offended! (is she trying to say my kids are noisy? they are quite noisy especially youngest he gets really excited but he is really quite funny so I forgive him!)

The local town had the Xmas Market yesterday and despite the weather conditions it appeared to go well, they did the best they could under the circumstances, I didn't go out to have a look as I was sitting near the doors at work and was absolutely frozen. Just have full day today and half day at work tomorrow then will be finished for Christmas and just have half a day next Wednesday, we will be away and we have to come back for me to go to work and then we will go back Wednesday afternoon.

I watched the Military Awards last night on the tv, of course with my box of tissues, I want to say to anyone that has family members or friends out in Afghanistan or any trouble spot, the British people are so proud of all of you. We know you do a difficult job in awful circumstances and see some truly terrible things, the bravery and professionalism of our Service personnel was quite rightly shown last night, we truly do have the best Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force in the world), we give you all our love and best wishes this Christmas and we are thinking of you all, your families and especially of the family and friends of those who have passed away. Sorry if this is not strictly on topic but I was truly moved by what I saw and don't think I am alone (there was a lot of tears from those at the awards).

Take care those in the snow. Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning all

Still no real signs of snow here, although very cold and it looks very slippy out. We've just had a light dusting of the white stuff, but it turned to ice pretty quick. Girls aren't happy and wish they had more. I'm hoping it stays away until at least Thursday, as they are off out tomorrow.

Well, no sign of any mice activity last night. Hopefully, the poison has been working.

An army of trucks is delivering the christmas shopping this morning :D What's the betting I've forgotten stuff? At least the main items are ordered [please don't be out of stock, please don't be out of stock, please.....:D]

Turkey is defrosting away. Hopefully it will be thawed through for Thursday.

Have quite a few things to do today. DDs want to make a cake with our new xmas tree and snowman moulds, so that will keep us occupied this afternoon. I also need to get the BM on and DD2 wants to make something with natural yoghurt, so will make some up in the easiyo.

Hope everyone has a great day, whatever you're doing.

Hugs to those who need or want one :)
