rufusd!!!2- where do you buy your quilting stuff? i have done alsorts fro xmas before, stockings, cushions etc but my local shops have all shut down over the last year. can you recommend an online site at all.

We do have a lovely quilting shop a couple of towns away (Rochester) where I learned to quilt and buy some of my fabrics but most of them I get off Ebay. I just search for the colours I want and look for the cheapest FQs I can get. There was someone on there who sold remnants as well which I used to buy but havent seen her on there for a while now. If she comes back I will pm you her username. For the wadding I buy from Dunelm Mill. Their light weight wadding is only 99p a metre and is really wide, think about 54 inches, so when I can get OH to take me there I usually buy £10 worth or so to keep me going. My quilt I made for my own bed I used a thicker filling as they had sold out of the thinner stuff and its been lovely to use, we have only just had to revert back to a duvet this week. For the backing I just use polyester sheeting which you can also buy from Dunelm Mill. I was lucky a while ago and saw someone on Ebay selling what they called offcuts from bedding. Said it was a boxful and it cost about £15 inc pp but when it came it was a massive box and it was full mostly of cream and white sheeting but a few bits of blue and pink in there too. It was all good sizes, were as big as proper fitted sheets but some had the bit going across where the machine joins the fabrics together. Some were just full size sheets. I still have loads left so will last me a while to use for backing etc.

Here are the bracelets, the top one has some old metal buttons on it plus beads, other ones just have the beads.

And here's one of the button necklaces.

Have3 just made some square giftboxes from some bits of card using a free template off the web, need to decorate the boxes a bit better. Will be using them for the bracelets but think I will just wrap the necklaces in a cello bag.

Absolutely lovely Rufus! Well done you! :T

My tooth is still giving me jip but managed to play around with melting and molding chocolate yesterday which was fun!

Thanks Legendmum, how did the chocolate go? Did it harden ok? We tried to make chocolate slabs last year but they didnt harden again, heard at the time that we had got the temperature wrong. It has put me off doing any more with chocolate but I like the look of the chocolate spoons on Flyingpig's fabulous thread and have some plasitc spoons already.

Thanks Clare, I think they look full because I put loads of beads on them. My grandson was round Saturday and sat and threaded loads of beads onto head pins for me so saved a lot of time and he did different combinations than I would have done my self. All the beads I used were from old necklaces etc, just bought the chain to put them on and the other bits you need to make them. Rufus xx

Thanks Abdonz xx Hope you have a lovely birthday. Best thing to do with the craft thing is to get a note book and write down all the ideas you would like to try and then work out which looks simplest and go for it. With the jewellery, I wanted a pair of earrings one year to match an outfit and couldnt find any so ordered some of the wires that go through your ear from Ebay and then just took two beds off my necklace and put one on each to make mathcing earrings. Then I looked again to see what else I could buy and someone was selling a big bundle of jewellery findings as they had stopped doing it so I won that and am still using up the bits I got from that. You would need to get some small tools like wire cutters, round ended pliers and some normal pliers if you want to do the jewellery, but I bought a set of pliers and cutters in 99p store or poundland and just bought the round ended ones off Ebay.

There are lots of other things you could attempt that are easier instead of jewellery, just make a list of what you want to try and then come back on here and ask and someone will be able to help you out. Rufus xx

  • Had two very productive days. I went to a retail park yesterday and went to the "nice" home bargains. I got the start of a few hampers and some small pressies in yesterday and some 3 for £10 items from morrisons today. For my nan i got a tea for 1 set for £3.50 which kinda wrecked my budget of £5 for that hamper, but it looks nice.

I ordered some cellophane from ebay for £4.50 too so that should cover my hampers and pog. I got most of the items in need for my pog. I bought some cadburys gold tree ornaments for just over £2 in morrisons and went into b&m after and saw them for £1.50 grr. I did get my ferrero's. They were a 69p for a pk of 4, bargain. They did have a box of 30 for £5 but i would have scofffed them so i stuck with the smaller pks. All i need are the containers and a few nicer sweets to put in.

I bought 3 sml wicker baskets from pound stretcher last month for my hampers and i tried them out with the things i bought yesterday and they are too small to fit anything in, grr. Hopefully i can find my receipt so i can take them bk otherwise i'm stuck with them. I feel like i've spent a lot of money on these hampers buying things to fill them and i'm still not finished, more than my budget of around £5 each.
  • Yay! My boss just approved my Christmas holiday! I'll be off from Friday 17th December until Jan 4th. I'm so excited :j:j:j

I said "I hope it's not too early to ask..." and he just said it was first come first served and signed it off straightaway.

Am very excited now. Roll on December!!!

PS Happy birthday Abdonz for tomorrow and hope Mary had a nice weekend up in Scotland.
