Hmmm, they're not quite the right people to do that for - one of them will be my 90 year old Nan! lol And she likes a glass of wine dont get me wrong, but I think she's a bit past drinking that much now. lol

Thank you though, I really appreciate the idea!!

Ooooh :rotfl:maybe not the best idea then. Do you all get together at new year every year? Maybe you could get a book and everyone write a 'resoloution' or something they would like to achieve in the coming year and get it out next year and do the same and see who completed their 'wish' :o

Ok no ideas coming lol :rotfl:

    Afternoon all,

    Welcome to any newbies!!!

Ok guys, what could I do for table gifts for New Years eve? I did pots of gold last year, and gave snowman poop to the same people really too. Any thoughts?

    Clare x

On one of the babies first birthdays one year we did goodie bags for the adults and we gave mini pamper packs - each one had a couple of sachets of age/gender appropriate sachets/minis (eg foot scrub, hair conditioner, shower gel, face mask....) plus one of those Lindor chocolates. Those were quite a hit and didn't cost much. Alternatively what about a tiny jar (like the ones you get with scones in posh cafes) of something homemade.....jam/chutney...) or a couple of truffles..........

hmmmm, will see if I can come up with anything else.....

Ooh! I'm very pleased today :D

Went to Mr T's at lunchtime to get the reduced teatowels (set of 3) and oven gloves summer spotty sets reduced to £1 each for me and mum. Got the last 2 of each and then went through on 342 making it £3 for all 4 items making them 75p each!

Then yesterday saw the half price car care items and thought I'd get some for my brother's car hamper to pad it out some more
    Screenwash 5L £1.50 (£3)
    Wheel Cleaner £2.25 (£4.50)
    Dashboard Shine £2.25 (£4.50)
    Shake Shampoo £2.25 (£4.50)
Eco Screen Wash 37p (think was about £3.50)
    Wash pad 43p (?)

All done now and hamper completed :j
    Cost £27.05
    Full price £53.50
    Saving £26.45 :money:

For mums garden hamper caved in at the garden centre and blew the budget a bit on a garden stool for £14.99. Its very sturdy which I think is better, plus I've saved so much on all the other items I think this is allowed

Garden Hamper is stuffed full of items in a trug reduced to £2.75 from £4.50

Garden Hamper completed at a cost of £39.64 :j
    Full price £70.90
    Saved £31.26 :money:

Totted up on my list whats left to get and very do able over the next couple of months

Think I might have the rest of the month off from presents and concentrate of mums anniversary present and chutney making etc. then restart in Oct and aim to finish by mid Nov?

  • Hello

I have been looking at this thread for a while now and would like to join. Everyone seems to have such good ideas.

I have got tons of lavender growing outside my house and wanted to make it into lavender bags for Christmas gifts. Does anyone know how long to dry out the lavender for first? Do you have to put it in the airing cupboard or anything? Not very good at this so all ideas/help most welcome!

    Thank you :o

    Hello all :j
You do all seem to be so busy.......makes me feel a bit on the idle side..............lol

cookie - I'm drying some lavender out for lavender bags........did google and see how long it has to dry for but forgot what it said...........lol Typical me !

fedupandskint -must take a trip to our Tesco and see if they've got any cheap gardening gloves for 'cobweb chasers' - be just my luck for them not to have but you never know

Well, not done much today......back was aching after painting those drawers yesterday......think I put them all in before the paint was fully dry......some of the drawers kept getting stuck today............lol So, not doing any more to it for now until my backs a bit easier ..........the whole thing is only 16 inches wide but because neighbours grandad made it it's a bit rickety if the drawers don't go in just right.

Not done a lot today apart from making some cards (thanks to susan's parcel :T) Needed to make some 'special' ones for my sons and grandkids so I've been doing them.

    Hope you're all ok...........keep busy:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Mary your welcome, pity we cant see cards....lol xx

CDSMILER - what abot the little jars 4 for a £1 in poundshop filled with layers of retro sweets.

Or a party in a box, paper hat, popper, streamers. Bubbles. balloons

And as your nans 90, perhaps a time capsule type thing where you gave everyone a notebook 9p asda(covered in pretty paper or embellishments)and pen, from bookies covered in matching paper. And have a list of questions prepared like . Best memory 2010, best memory last decade. Funniest thing. Worst outfit. Memories etc , and put them in a box suitably decorated "the ***** family" and put in the attic...

I would still do the pots of gold because everyone loves a lottery ticket

And get a free personalised mug for each person from vistaprint via topcash back....(work out free) and put snowman soup in....

Fedupand skint, thats some great bargains again, didnt get to Mr T today, determined to go tomorrow...and the car wash kit sounds ace, just what i want for DS

Hi cookiecrumb welcome to MSe - lavender....tie the lavender up on string, separating each bunch, then put it in a dark dry place....wardrobe, shed, airing cupboard, attic....when dry, chop up......

    Hi susan,

I bought a Simoniz bucket 6 piece set for £10 reduced from £20. Then I thought it wasn't that great a buy overall and when I saw all of the Simoniz range on half price offer I thought I'd fill it out some more and got another 4 items for £8.75 plus a massive 5Litre bottle of screenwash is £1.50 plus if your store has the Eco Screen wash its 37p for 1Litre! Also lots of bargin microfibre cleaning cloth packs and pads for anything from 47p - £2

Definately a good time to buy and stock up as on offer and for £10 could get a lot without buying that bucket set or for £20 could get the whole range, cloths, pads and screenwash and probably some change :D

What about a hangover kit/hamper - maybe bottle water, paracetamol, hair of the dog etc??? Just a thought as I can remember the morning after my 18th!!!!
  • Thanks very much for the advice Mary and Susan. Think I will pick some lavender this weekend and see how we get on...

I was at Home Bargains at the weekend and managed to pick up a few bits and pieces for my sister's Christmas box (just like a hamper really) including some Urban Therapy shampoo and conditioner which were only 99p each. Bargain!:)

I also got the box itself from Dunelm Mill for £2.99 - it's really sturdy and kind of all weaved together with a lid so she'll be able to use it afterwards for keeping something in. I got a nice basket for my Dad and Stepmum's hamper too - it was only £1.99 but it looks more expensive. I think I'm going to make some chilli and tomato jam and some lemon and lime curd to go in there too. Wondering where to get cheap jars from (anywhere online that I looked you have to but about 50!!) They had some in Dunelm but they weren't the right sort.

    Any ideas?
