Cdsmiler has given you a good start
Here's some more ideas for the boxes:
Emergency box:
*Candles
*Matches or lighter
*Take away menus if you live close enough to get some local ones?
*Loo roll!
*Cork screw or swiss army knife type tool
*Pen and small notepad
Medical:
*Dettol (sp?) and cotton wool
*Thermometer (you can get cheap 'stick on the head' ones rather than the more expensive digital ones)
*The cool thingies you pop in the fridge for sprains and aches
*Tweezers for splinters etc
*Asda do these fab things for headaches - it's a pack of gel sheets that you stick on your head and they cool it and relieve the pain. They are available in most places, but Asda do a pack that is only £1 for 3 big sheets, and it's just as effective as the ones costing 3 times as much.
For most of the things I would recommend Wilkinsons if you have one near you as they seem to be very cheap. I always try to stock up when I'm in oneMaking money for Christmas 2012!0 -
Aha fab stuff. I got stumped on the Emergency box!! What about a spare house key and spare car keys? (Granted, you can't add these, but you could have a "For you to add" list for them to put extra bits in!)
Add to the medical some Vicks type stuff....what's it called?
If either of them suffer with hayfever, anti histomine too.

Great ideas ladies! My sister picked up the keys to her new house yesterday (split up from OH and he's keeping the house) so she will be moving anytime now. I know for certain she's not organised enough to pack anything like this for herself so Big Sis will sort it!I :heartpuls M.S.E.

Home Bargains is probably your best bet for cheap bit - they have candles for 19p and mine has those fridge cool things for 50p - the Winnie the Pooh ones are quite cute. Their plasters and creams are also a fraction of the price to other stores. If you're adding bandages make sure you put insafety pins.Trying to be money neutral for christmas0

Hello all :j
susan -can't add to your list.....think you've got plenty there. Depends on the size of the hamper really. My little SOS boxes limit what I can put in them so I've been very MSE and put in spares of what we've got like batteries/plasters oh and I put some blu-tak in........surprising what uses it has.
kelly - thanks for saying ''safety pins''..........haven't popped any in yet.
elysia - thanks for the link. Spoiled for choice now I am as I had a link off the card making thread for small chipboard albums which is really what I'm after. Have put your link in 'my favourites' - good offer that one but think I'd probably use them for photo albums.
Done nothing to do with christmas today - scrubbed the top of my pine kitchen table -quite an achievement with my back:eek: Then young girl who cleans came up, wizzed the mop and hoover round and cleared out my kitchen cupboar of cleaning stuff so now we can see what we've got :T
Tomorrow we're clearing out the bedroom our last lad used...........must check with neighbour when her new furnitures coming so I've got space for her throw outs..................lol:rotfl:I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I'm coming down with a mahoosive cold and feel rubbish. Wrapped in up pjs and just had a hot chocolate
Called in on the way home to a garden centre looking for a kneeler/stool and didn't have one but bought a bargain bulb planter to go in the hamper and some amerylis plant food for 50p which you put in the pot and it drip feeds the plant
I got this as I decided to buy an amerylis bulb and pot it up for me and mum for christmas - haven't got them yet but will have a look over the next few weeks

Here we go... thought it best to credit the great lady herself
I made the classic one last year for the first time and as I'd never made a Christmas cake before I felt quite apprehensive about how it would turn out. No need to worry as it was lovely, and everyone said it was much nicer than any bought cake they had before
This year I'm making both

I'm away for a few days visiting the inlaws - might get a chance to go online during the day tomorrow (fingers crossed!). Hope you all have a fab weekend if I don't post before!

Hi girls
Talk about busy on here LOL Normally I check on a few times daily but few days back didn't do it and I haven't been able to catch up yet - so many posts!
Susan - emergency box - fuse wire? Even if they don't have those kinds of fuses the wire can be useful for other things. Needle/cotton and scissors.0 -
