put some money away in good times to use in bad times , don't expect others to pay for your lack of foresight
You are indeed privileged. Your theory works on the principal that everbody has had "good times" Your argument is fundamentally flawed on this basis alone.
Tell me what you do if you have never had "good times"0 -
no we are the ones speaking on the side of reason and resposibility not the everything now and sod the consequences brigade
"We are the ones speaking on the side of reason and responsibility"
Would that be a fact, or YOUR oppinion?
Somewhat arrogant to assume that you are correct, and the majority of people on this site are wrong is it not?
Do you feel a sense of duty to come on this site and educate the average "thicko"0 -
only if you let it , again - manage your money and it won't apply to you
I do manage my money right down to the last penny ,but some unfortunate people get hit with unexpected bills .
example
an old age pensioner was shopping at tesco the cashier accidently rang in £55.05 instead of £5.05 the mistake was rectified immediately by the cashier but the bank slapped a charge of over 50quid because he went into the red for about 9 seconds.
he got his money back but only after a lengthy argument.
but hey if u think that kind of action is just then ......Always remember that you're unique, just like everybody else:cool:0 -
if overdrafts are free or nearly free then people who manage their money well will have to pay charges to subsidise those overdrafts
Oh so its ok for the poor people who get hit with these charges to pay for YOUR free banking thenAlways remember that you're unique, just like everybody else:cool:0 -
mke some for yourself
You disappoint me, thought you could have come up with something better than that. "mke some for youself" really!
Would that be like mking some acting, musical or sporting talent for youself? Would it be like mking yourself 6ft 2 if you are 5ft?
Your "good times" as you call them can be purely down to fate. Tell somebody born with a horrendous illness to go mke some "good times"
As stated before, your argument is fundamentally flawed.0 -
Largely you make your own luck ( or fate if you prefer) , most people have good and bad times , I know people in this field of work and most people get into a mess by overspending on non essentials.
Plenty of 5' people have done better than 6'2'' people , and most people arn't actors sportsmen or musicians
disabled people are well catered for by social security , yes their standard of living is going to be worse than some , but some people working are worse off than on social security , and there are always going to be people on different levels of wealth thats the way of the world , even the communist countries couldn't manage to eradicate that although they did try to bring everyones income down to the same level , if you look at north korea pretty well everyone has a job and similar income and sometimes enough to eat but not much more , but even there thre are people on a lot more income.
as I have said a number of times , there are people who deserve help because they are in a bad situation not through their own making and I fully support giving them help , but these people are in the minority.mke some for yourself

merely giving a contary view from someone who did what you suggest but the other way round
"you suggest" read my post again, only this time with due diligence. Tell me in what part of it is a suggestion being made?
Somewhat arrogant to assume that you are correct,
suggestion0 -

If you went into tesco and something was £20 would you expect to pay only £10 because you were poor ? , this seems to basis of your arguement , that the banks should charge less if people say they are poor0
