He's completely misrepresented the situation to you.

A crash in a Clio is going to !!!! her up every bit as much as a Ka.

Maybe but as a parent, having been given the info, would never forgive myself - call me stupid maybe :o

And having seen her walk from her Clio, which was on its side in a ditch, having hit an oncoming vehicle, I FEEL the Clio is safer. Horses for courses I guess :D

The Fabia is an excellent idea - far superior to anything French. OP I wouldn't be put off just because the one 106 you saw had no PAS - try and find one with it, although having said that I don't think many of the lower spec 1.1s did have it so you may be right.

Done deal - bought a lovely Punto 1.2 today, very low mileage (last owner on V5 was called Gladys so don't think it has been boy raced :D) and a nice clean little motor.

Thanks to everyone for all of your advice

As for like for like. You could check. Normally you find the difference between a less desirable Vectra or Mondeo than a Clio is less than you would think. There is a lot of loading on corsas, clios etc due to the ned factor.

This is true - I was looking at insurance quotes the other day (I'm 19, have had a fault accident and drive a 1.5 Nissan Almera on a 53 plate)

My renewal is due in Feb - getting quotes at the moment of £795 for my current car, £635 for a 1.3 CDTI Corsa and £850 for a 1.8 Vectra - all similar age and value. As you can see the quote for the Vectra isn't exactly miles apart from the one for the Corsa. I actually clicked the wrong option when declaring a claim the first time I got those quotes and it was more like £600 for the Vectra (grrr... :rotfl:)
