Peugeot 106

I have a 106 (zest 2) and I can agree with an earlier poster that the pedals are close together. I have got used to using my tip of my toes for the pedals. I got this car for my wife so she can build up her NCB's. The car itself is reliable and has started OK in the recent snow.
The downside is lack of power (other car is a c-max 2.0 TDCI), but for driving around town it is perfect. The brakes (maybe just me) are not the best.
Like any car - check the pedals, seats, steering wheel etc against the reported mileage. Start the engine cold to make sure there are no "knocking sounds" and have a look around the bodywork to make sure that everything lines up i.e. gaps are the same at the top of the doors compared to the bottom etc.0 -
106 is a good little car, rust is not an issue.
You ideally want the Zest 3 model, power steering, central locking, electric windows and sunroof which will leak eventually and require some silicone sealant round the edge.
They are surprisingly heavy to drive without power so try to get that.
True the pedals are no good for fella's like me with size 11's but they were designed for the fairer sex and they have no trouble.
They are lovely to park having terrific all round vision, something sadly missing in new fashion accessory cars like fiesta, ka, corsa etc (i nearly spelt that coarsa, might be nearer in truth).
The 1.5 Diesel is the one to get if you can find it with power steering etc.0 -
IMO I wouldn't be looking at the 106 with a budget of £1500-£2000 - theres better out there for the money. An older Corsa C (2000-2003 probably or newer with high miles) can be had for that money and is a better, safer car.0

The 106 had a resonable name in it's day, for the money it is probably alright but the Corsa would be on my list to look at a little more expensive although insurance would probably be cheaper especially if you go for the 1 litre model & car tax would be £35pa.
Tax on a Corsa is only £35 if you get a 1.0 petrol AUTOMATIC (don't) or a 1.3 CDTI diesel from 2005-on. 1.0 manual / 1.3 cdti before 2005 is £120 going down to £90 soon.0 -
Your daughter should get another Clio!0

What about a 206? Plenty about.0

If my daughter was having accidents I don't think I could live with myself if I put her in a 106.
Good handlers, reliable and funky they may be.
But in a crash you might as well be in a baked bean tin.0 -

That is my main concern with a 106 tbh - although to be fair to her she's had one accident, isn't having accidents (I hope ).
The 106 my OH looked at was sold before we could get back to test drive it but we're looking at a replacement Clio tomorrow so fingers crossed.0 -
Do not get a 206. Horrible Horrible cars0

If I was you I would stretch my budget to the Corsa if it looks ok after inspection.
Ensure you buy from a dealer for piece of mind.someone with your limited knowledge of cars should not buy privately.0
