Peugeot 106
Hi all
As some will know from my earlier thread, DD1 had an accident last week and her Clio was written off. Finding a replacement car within her budget (£1500) and within a reasonable distance is proving somewhat difficult however we are going to look at a Peuget 106 (2002) tomorrow.
I realise that I am opening this up to opinion - but does anyone have any experience of these cars ? What problems should we be looking our for ? And where can I get a price guide so I know we're not paying over the odds ?
Thanks

Thanks - DD would defintely not be seen in a Honda Jazz as my mother has one so she deems them 'Granny cars'
.
Was just a little concerned that the NCAP rating is not as high as the Clio .0 -

your right, but the 106 is an older design than the 106. can she save up or borrow the money from you for the car she wants?0 -

I had an 02 106 for a while, had it from new for about 3 years and never had any issues, other than very occasionally hitting a metal bar with my foot when braking quickly due to my large feet, which shouldn't be an issue for a woman! Only ever owned Fords otherwise and the only comparison I can make is that parts are slightly more expensive/hard to come by and the electrics are better.0

I've heard the pedals are a bit different to usual as well. Just take a bit of getting used to I gather. El_gringo did you mean ford parts are cheaper? And electrics are better on ford than pug? To which I would have to agree.0

Had a 106 diesel in the 1990's it was one of the early 1.4 engines. car handled great, was nippier than you would think, and would cruise at an easy 70 down the motorway with a ride more like a bigger car. I never managed to get it to do less than 50 mpg however it was driven. It used the same floorpan as the Citroen AX and the pedals are slightly offset to the left. Only problem I had was weak bonnet hinges, but I think they sorted that out for later models. Eats front tyres in about 14K miles if you exploit the handling. Mate still has an L reg 1994 1.1 petrol that is in good nick and still going great on a 50 mile daily commute. Safety wise it IS a late 80's design so no way will it be as safe as a 107, but there are worse cars out there.0

Well her Clio was a 1998 'S' plate so not the newest designhartcjhart wrote: »how much are they asking for it,any mot& tax, service history? how many miles has it done, exact model?
Petrol engine, manual transmission, FSH, MOT's today, taxed until April, 54k miles, 1.1 Independance 2002 / 52 plate. Metallic black. £1595.000 -
The 106 had a resonable name in it's day, for the money it is probably alright but the Corsa would be on my list to look at a little more expensive although insurance would probably be cheaper especially if you go for the 1 litre model & car tax would be £35pa.Theres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10
