I agree, my car is great - it just seems to have dreadful fuel efficiency (that's probably a contradiction!)

    I know what I mean.

I'd let it settle in a bit tbh. A new car does need time to bed in properly, before the fuel efficiency does start to improve - that's just the way it is.

Plus at the moment, these wintry conditions will do nothing to help fuel consumption so you'll be having a double whammy affecting what you get compared to your old car so there's no way you can do a fair comparison at the moment. Give it time, once winter passes and the engine has been run in more, it fuel consumption should noticeably improve.

Thanks for that - it's made me feel better about it.

New Fiesta isnt a small car. Its a similar size to the original Focus.

Agree with points about giving it a few thousand to bed in, and current weather all working against fuel economy but its not often you will achieve the mpg the brochure says you should expect.

The figures come from govt testers but always found it tricky to get close to them.

    Hello everyone,

I don't normally venture onto this board, but have a motoring issue so thought I might check you all out.

I have recently purchased a new Ford Fiesta. Nice to drive, nice colour, all good really untill I have to start filling it up......... and never seem to stop! It's fuel efficiency is DREADFUL!!

Everything I read about it in advance suggested much better fuel efficiency than I am actually experiencing.

I realise that just driving it around town will not produce the greatest MPG figures, but compared to the renault Clio I traded in it's awful.

Has anyone else been unfortunate enough to experience the same??

I have been thinking I should contact Watchdog or similar to highlight that Ford are lying on all their publicity material.

we've got the 1.25 petrol version and we tend to get 300 ish to a fill thats mainly town driving
  • With regard to the fuel light, in most cars they come on when you have approx 50 miles of fuel left in the tank, depending on how fast you are driving etc will decide on how far down your fuel gauge is.

    Thanks to all, great info.

Will give it a bit of time - after poor weather has passed - and continue to monitor.

    Cheers peeps!! :T

I have a 52 plate fiesta and I must say that I get really good mileage out of it!

i just bought a 52 plate fiesta 2 months ago! is yours a new shape (at the time) or sold shape one? i had a 1995 fiesta 1.1 before and the fuel consuption was better in that on the motorway than my new one (though i frequently got stuck @ 50mph going uphill on the motorway ), town driving seems more or less the same for fuel consumption, but my new one is a 1.4 so i expected a difference, my friend also has a 52 fiesta and says she doesnt seem to get many miles out of it and hers is a 1.3

the one problem i have with the car is that i find the dipped beams a bit too dim whe driving on country roads with no street lamps, cant use full beams as there is traffic on the other side too....
