I didn't get to see the listing that the OP linked to before it was pulled, but I tend to see quite frequently listings that say something like "For some reason ebay won't let me add P&P" where I guess the seller hasn't tried to find out why they can't add P&P costs.

Of course, you always get people like this guy who just appear to ignore the idea of free P&P and list what they want to charge anyway - now I know in this example he is only trying to charge 76p for postage, which is very reasonable, but you'd think that someone with 737 feedback would understand that free P&P means free P&P.

The other thing that I've noticed is happening a lot more often now is where sellers list postage as Freight/Courier so they can charge for it, even when their listing then clearly states they will send by 1st or 2nd class and not by courier at all. (I spotted this listing which does just that and he's even got the nerve to have a pop at eBay in the process...)

It drives me mad when trs say 'for some reason I can't add postage'. I can understand an occasional private seller not knowing about the new rules, but for a business it's obviously just a try on.

If someone lists freight and sends by RM then the buyer can report them.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Say they want to charge 90p to post it, why don't they just add 90p to the starting price?

As it seems to be happening more often, how would you go about reporting a seller if they do this? What action would eBay take against them?

For example, on this listing, postage is marked as courier, but then clearly says he will use Royal Mail second class to post. What action would eBay take against him if reported (considering he's got over 17,000 feedback, I would have thought he should really know the rules)? Is it possible to win the auction but then legitimately refuse the P&P charge on the basis that first P&P option should be free?

  • ive posted about this subject on the recent thread regarding books,
Ive bid, won and now received a book that was listed as 99p with £2.75 postage mentioned in the listing description. The seller invoiced me for 99p + £2.75 - i altered the final amount to have a £2.75 'discount' and paid. Didnt hear from the seller and book arrived a couple of days ago, postage paid was £1.64 !! Im not sure if the seller has even noticed ?!?

Just not sure how to word my feedback to reflect the seller is attempting to charge for postage in a free catagory , any suggestions ?

On the listing page go to the right hand side and under the seller's details click the "report item" link. For additional postage costs use "reason for report: listing policy breaches"; "detailed reason: circumvention of ebay fees"; "additional information: either surcharges or other attemps". You can report up to 10 items at a time.

"After your report is received: So considering this person with over 17000 feedback is a great asset for ebay they'll probably not do a lot.

Yes (if they specifically state it will be by Royal Mail)

I've bought books for 99p with a listing saying they'll add postage I've just made sure I pay straight away. Most of the books have turned up, one guy I had to do a NPS strike against.

Kalaika, I think all you can do is report the listing to ebay, but if you buy, pay for freight and it turns up RM then you can do NPS strikes, I think, but I'm not an ebay expert! (Just addict!).

you see lots of items are dropshipped exspecially games and dvd's and they make there money on the p&P rather than on the dvd cost so i cna see why people are blantantly ignoring ebay

I think dropshipping's against ebay rules though (you're supposed to have the item in hand ready to ship), so I suppose if they're breaking one rule breaking another doesn't bother them...

There's plenty of dropshippers selling, its not against the rules, only if you can't provide the goods, it doesn't really matter where they ship from as long as it says so on the item page (ie if seller is in UK and items ship from China it needs to be explicit on item page).
