Boots after-Christmas sales - 75% off now over?

Genuine question because your post really set me thinking:
Suppose that instead of being a sale of luxury goods the situation was some sort of humanitarian crisis. Say a town was cut off because of a disaster and then a helicopter dropped a bundle of vital food and medical supplies, would your last sentence still stand?
I think everyone needs to get this into perspective. We are not talking about Haiti or humanitarian crisis. We are talking about as you say, luxury goods. We don't need these to survive so why should they be fairly distributed and effectively 'rationed'.Unfortunately though as you asked the question, people do have to fight for emergency supplies in third world countries and disaster situations. It does not make it right, but my statement stands.. If you want something badly enough you do sometimes have to fight for it.0 -
Does Mr B sell S&G handwash all year round?
I really want some for the bathroom but I don't remember seeing it?
Also, is the 342 on S&G still on? I love their body scrub but I'm just about out!
Might just buy another tub of vitamins while I'm there, oh and some no. 7 with my snowy and of course lots of good quality sale items that will be sat there waiting for me!!!If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!0 -
342 not on S&G no more....0

Im gutted, just picked up my order from my local store and the Scarlett and Crimson mini wonders set I ordered for my daughter wasnt it, instead they had replaced it with a plastic stack of lipgloss from same brand. No delivery note in box either. Have rang them and they apologised but no longer have stock of the original item, however will refund the amount I paid for it instead. My daughter will be so sad, we had seen one in the sale on Wednesday at meadowhall but didnt buy it as I had already ordered this one.
On a different note, anyone got a phone number for Paypal? I get an error code when I try to find it on the website. They are holding money 'pending' for a order Boots cancalled due to low stock last week. Please God, help me stop spending!0 -
I got a Star Trek Mug for a nice little surprise present for my uncle, was very pleased that it only cost £1.50. Was going to put it up for his birthday but as there has reccently been a death in the family, i felt he might need cheering up and will give it to him at the weekend.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

Throughout this thread I've seen quite a few posts saying "if you saw a blonde woman in a pink coat with a buggy, that was me" etc etc so I thought; how about a downloadable label to print out and wear during sales like this one? Something along the lines of "MSE Forum Fan" with the url along the bottom. There could be space to add your forum name if you want to.
It'd be interesting to see just how many of us you'd see and nice to identify people you've talked to on here.
I do draw the line, however, at having Quick! Grabbit While You Can attached to my chest
I can't imagine wanting to be identified from the forum while in Boots! You don't know who's reading this. Maybe it's not a big deal when we're just talking about doing it at the current sales, but I know in the past when working some glitch -- like getting to use two different points vouchers and a money off coupon on something that was already on sale -- I would've died if an employee knew I was on MSE and mentioned something about me working the glitches! Or another MSEr coming up and loudly saying something in front of an employee!
Not to mention there are a a small number of people on these forums who, how shall I say this, are a bit nutso. There, that's a good way to put it. Some of them you don't notice until you've been on a long time and read a lot of the posts, and I sure wouldn't want someone with a wild case of crazy coming up to me and yabbering about MSE!0 -
It was complete chance for me as I was up at 4:58 am on the 20th and thought I'd put the computer on and see if there was anything left (I got quite a few things last year as I was up breastfeeding my then 4 week old baby when the sale went live at 3am) and I managed after 45mins of trying to check out to get an order through using paypal as the server kept crashing when I used my card details.
My order arrived yesterday and I'm really chuffed, got:
2 gok sets (one as a treat for me and one for my sil)
1 chilli pepper bag (for sil)
2 ted baker lip gloss sets (one for me and one for sil)
2 star wars sticker machines (for my eldest 2 boys)
2 mr men chairs (for my younger two boys)
1 giant inflatable ball thing that you roll around inside(joint for the boys)
The toys are all put away for birthdays or xmas as this is what I did last year and it worked really well this xmas, all kids very happy and got loads for a fraction of the price.
I also popped into my two local shops, got myself a leather purse for £3 and some big boxes of chocs for £2.50 each for various birthdays as they are dated August 2010. Also a couple of mens sets (no.7 and fcuk) for my brother.
So all in really pleased, added to my stash of toys from the next sale so I'll have happy boys again this year.
I understand people's comments about giving to charity but there is also an aspect of 'charity begins at home' and I want to give my children and my family the very best that I can within the restraints of my budget.0 -

I didn't agree with her posting trying to make us feel bad about enjoying the sales or trying to tell us how to use our money, but come on, selling three hatboxes on eBay doesn't make her hypocrite! You don't know how much she has or hasn't given to charity.0 -

Thanks for answering Julia. I wasn't trying to be provocative or critical - my brain had gone off at a tangent as it so often doesthis time, along the lines of survival of the fittest thousands of years ago and how these things changed (who survived as society etc changed) but I agree that this forum wasn't the place for such a discussion and hope I haven't offended anyone.
My message to that greedy wunch of bankers:
Debts another fine mess you got us into!
If you see somone who hasn't got a smile, give them one of yours.0 -
