Am I not right in thinking that Petroleum Jelly can cause the sels to deteriorate faster, and it should be silicone spray?
Also another good tip is to raise your wipers of the windscreen overnight if you think its going to snow, stop them sticking to the windscreen or breaking do to a massive dump of snow (not likely in England)0 -

i use a pressurised spray bottle (pump up type) full of hot water, with the nozzle set to mist spray, and a window squeegy blade. Spray the ice until it melts, then clear and dry (to prevent refreezing) with the blade. Havent bought de-icer in years.
it also works for frozen door seals:A R.I.P. Dave "Simmo" Stimpson.....:AA friend, A Gentleman, and a Damn good pool player. You will be missedone in prison, not long enough0 -
For years now I've used one of those small watering cans designed for indoor plants - they deliver just the right flow of hot water (from the tap, not the kettle if you don't want cracked glass!), for the windows and, if necessary, the doors.
As stated in earlier posts, you need to put your wipers on intermittent to clear the screen before it refreezes!
The de-icer spray only gets used if the locks freeze.0 -
Until a couple of years ago I always used to park up in my garage but due to storage requirements I have to leave my car outside. Consequently I never experienced the frozen lock problem but it nearly happened to me a couple of days ago so I decided I better be prepared for it should it happen properly next time. Therefore I went out and got a can of anti-freeze and have put it away for when it is needed. Now after reading this thread I see a few posts suggesting that using it on locks(or windows) is not the way to go. This leaves me wondering just exactly what is antifreeze good for?:rotfl: given up on tesco do a lot os boots offers. but weekends are now in orange trackside b. lol

Hi. My car locks have frozen for the past 3 days. I have tried warming the key, no luck with that, pouring warm water on the door lock, still didn't work, then i had a brain wave... i got out the extension lead and plugged in a hair dryer and blew warm air on the door lock, after about 45 seconds the door lock worked. Mind you i don't think that i would do this if it started raining. Anyway i now keep the extension lead and hairdryer by the front door ready for the next time.20p savers club
