I'm having this alot at the moment. I managed to pull mine open eventually, although I'm sure I'm damaging something. My friend had a mini and he struggled all through winter, I'm sure he resorted to hot water so at least he could get to work! I think he also used to put a towel over his windscreen tucking the sides in the doors so there was less to freeze. Might work?!

Well I have a windscreen cover and it still froze, luckily just one door, so managed to crawl thru passenger side, not a pretty sight, my fat 4rse trying to get thru a little saxo that way :rotfl:But then I had the problem that my windscreen cover was only free at one side. So had to wrap it round the wing mirror until I got to work.

  • If the door is stuck poor warm water on it. NOT hot. This will melt the ice and help you get in. Warm water on the windscreen is also better imo then using antifreeze sprays. Important that it is warm and NOT hot as that can crack the screen. Also you have to squeegy or use the windscreen wipers to clear the water or it will refreeze again very quickly.

To prevent it from happening again, give the door frame and rubber seal a wipe to clean them. Then give both seal and door frame a squirt with some sillicone spray, as found in most hardware shops eg halfords, bbandq even asda and tescos.

This should stop the door sticking in future.
  • I spray de-icer into the lock, always works for me and hasn't damaged the paintwork. Could also try spraying the key before inserting it into the lock.

I also use vaseline smeared around the door frame and reapply once a week during the freeze!

If its only your locks that are frozen, heating the(the key) up with a lighter or match usually works too.
