Can you not system restore FORWARD to where you were to begin with?
Hi aliEnRIK,
This is what I did last night. Initially I did a system restore to a restore point dated the 15th but when I saw my browser history wasn't restored I clicked "undo" restore which should have taken me right back to where I was to begin with. It was at this point all these browser crashes started so I did another system restore to a manual restore point I had made the minute before I did the restore back to the 15th. The browser crashes continued after this one booted up too so I went back to before the 15th and that didn't help either. In the end I brought it back to a restore point created on the 18th and have just left it there as clearly system restore is not helping.
I'm at a loss now - I don't understand how system restore could have created an error that is preventing my browsers from opening without instantly crashing
Could the system restore have deleted something important? Could there be something blocking 32bit browsers? Are there any other free 64-bit browsers out there that I could try just to test this out? Thanks for any help. :hello: :hello: :hello:0 -
^^Opera  Nice browser too. Google Chrome is another option.
Thanks for the suggestions - I've downloaded both of these now and they run fine. I'm sure they are only 32bit browsers as well though so that disproves the idea there's something blocking the 32 bit browsers. It's baffling as IE 32bit and Firefox are still just crashing instantly.:hello: :hello: :hello:0 -
Viruses tend to hide in system restore points so you could easily have made things worse
1st up, you need a working browser or another computer to download things on. Assuming you only have the one theres several things to try ~
SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING (Keep pressing F8 at bootup)
or run the browsers without addons ~

Assuming at least one of them works ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the log COMPLETE here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -

Glad that you at least got it partly sorted Michelle;) Let us know if there is anything else - and have a lovely Christmas .

There is a desktop in the house but IE 64bit is working and I've now downloaded Opera, Google Chrome and Safari and they all work as well so I have working browsers.
That's pretty scary that viruses hide in system restore points.Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')

I ran malwarebytes last night and it found nothing but I will run it again just in case and I'll do the hijack this log as well.
Thanks for the help.:hello: :hello: :hello:0 -

Its because they know if an 'average' user has a problem they immediately think a restore will fix it:idea:0
