Tesco refusing to fill petrol on the wrong side of the pump?

The fuel gauge indicating which side the petrol cap is on doesn't work on BMW's either. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

Popped into the local asda to get some fuel, filled-up from the wrong side no problems. Everyone else was waiting in long queues to fill-up on the drivers side and the bloke in front and myself went to the free pumps and filled up on the wrong side

To be honest I've got small car and have never had a problem anywhere when filling-up from the wrong side of the pump.
@ gaz_jones anything to do with indicating I've always found to be a problem for beemer's

Looks like you are one of those Pain in the a-r-s e customers who seems to care only about your so-called rights and do not care about health and safety.
OK. So what are the health and safety risks? I can fill all my cars up ranging from a Corsa, Mazda 5 MPV to a BMW 5 series from the other side. It's not rocket science to park close to the pump, open the fuel flap and cap, move the fuel hose and fill up. I'm no stretching the hose nor spilling any fuel. All I am doing is simply following the signs on most Tesco petrol stations that depict the hose being long enough to fill from the other side. The man without a signature.0 -
The position of the temperature gauge and the petrol gauge on the dash.
If the petrol gauge is on the right of the speed dial then the petrol filler is also on the right, temperature gauge on the left.

Your going to start looking now.
My son's Honda Civic has a passenger side petrol cap, but his petrol gauge is on the right side on the dash.

It is not a safety issue. All petrol tanks require the filling nozzle to be inserted downwards so the position of the overfill protection on the nozzle itself is irrelevant. I work in the petrol distribution industry and I know this for a fact. Petrol pumps have long retrievable hoses for the very reason that they can be extended to reach the "far" side of a car. This design was put in place to reduce queues at forecourts and those people who do not take advantage of this (and would rather wait in line) obviously do not know that this facility is there to save them time. If you are worried about your car getting scraped then hold the hose with your free hand above the paintwork (simples!).0

I always wait to use the 'correct' pump, except one 1 occasion, I was in OH's car and forgot that his petrol cap was on the other side to my car. I thought I would chance it, when all of a sudden a heard a loud voice over the tannoy asking the 'lady with the Mazda to stop filling and turn my car around!' I was mortified, everybody turned to look, I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me!! I've never done it since!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I've tried this with my own car but it just won't reach. My filler is on the driver's side. I've parked as close to the pump as possible. Are some petrol station's hoses shorter than others?0

No, the hoses are generally the same length. It's just that the curbs around the pumps are wider in some filling stations which may mean you'd have to park closer than normal.0 -
Its not the side the fuel guage is, its the side the nozzle/hose is on the little "Pump" on the fuel guage. Or is this not so on BMWs?.. Still dont understand how the attendendent has time to look at every car filling up to stop people anyway, arnt they to busy serving.?0
