Again, can't thank you lot enough for following this and offering your thoughts.

Wife is also being terrific support, varying between being outraged and breaking down in tears. It's tough... don't really have enough experience in this sector!

I did indeed mention how serious I am taking this, throughout the interview I was calm and I did mention I would be taking this further with the Sales Manager as soon as I could.. I know that I definately won't have an answer before Christmas.

The girl in HR who is dealing with this likes me (or at least seems to) and we played pool together + helped her out at the Xmas do in question, and was also the one jobbed with putting a package together for my (now very unlikely) transfer to China.

Just hope she looks at it from both sides.

I have got everything xed for you. It only takes one a-hole to make a workplace a misery.

hehe, I'm with you on the cruel streak, I have become curiously morbid with thoughts regarding that man.

My Union Rep person (although not official representation, he's just a good man that I trust with the know how) he never actually told me, but since we are on shut-down from tomorrow lunch time, until jan 4th I doubt anything would get done before New Years.

I'll await the outcome of this, I still feel like i'm in the wrong for some reason (although My union rep man told me that if someone accused him of doing drugs he would have taken them outside and 'blathered' them) I think I did pretty good.

Fair do's, you must do what feels right for you, but I'd take Union fella's advice where you can. I'd also be tempted to ask Union fella to get a copy of your company's Alcohol/Drug misuse policy. It's certain Mr Sales Manager has breached this but would be useful for you to have a copy for when forming your grievance.

If Union man is well aquainted with HR people he may even get a hint of how things are going in the New Year. When I was a rep HR often "let me know" which way they were thinking ;)

Enjoy the Christmas break & remind yourself often that Mr Sales Manager may well be at home wondering when you will hit him with the grievance & how HR are going to react when you do :D
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T

Although this must be a worry for you it is good to see that HR appear to be playing by the book.

This is a good thing, as the original accusation was and is false.

On a lighter note you could suggest that if the Sales Manager feels there is a problem with substance abuse perhaps he could be issued with one of these

Have a nice break, leave this thread alone for now and come back once there is more to post.

How did the sales manager know what the office apprentice had accused you of? Did she go to him directly or have the senior managers or HR been indiscreet?

  • If this whole thing has stemmed from an office junior with no sense of humour, what a pi$$y situation!

Sounds to me as though she must have told people you offered to hook her up with drugs, the Sales Manager has heard it and the memory was triggered whilst in the toilets that night, and coupled with being !!!!!! put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.

I bet the first thing the Sales Manager did the next morning was find her and tell her to write up a statement.

What I don't get is, so what if you were even doing drugs? You weren't at work and it's got nothing to with him.

Because he is on a hit list. She probably told a manager, they discussed it at a meeting and the management were asked to keep an eye out for any evidence. Hence why the sales manager followed him into the loos and listened carefully at the door. Bingo bango - the rest is history.

Agree, certainly to the extent that drunken sales manager appears to have thought he had hit some sort of jackpot

  • In the meeting, my line manager made it (kind of) clear that he expected this conversation to be a joke.

Sniffing in a toilet is still not evidence enough to prove cocaine usage, why didn't he ask me to empty my pockets? summon the bouncers? (especially later when he claims I was being threatening)

i'm sure has just spun this little web to try and win some points for vigilance.

Best thing to do. Go over his head and put a formal grievance in. As for drug tests etc.... totally ridiculous. The is Britain not some 3rd world country where you are gonna get whipped or stoned ??? lol ..stoned...haha...anyway more serious.... Tell him to go take a F*** to himself and report him. Big deal heard sniffin in a toilet. Maybe if you had a £20 note hangin from your nose and white powder round your nostrils he'd have a case. The guy is an obvious nuggit and its him who should be watchin out... NOT you !!!
