Thanks Tim! I'm no longer worried about buying a bed when pregnant and I've managed to track down a Dewsbury Kozeesleep bed so I think we're going to go with that.
Next thing on the shopping list is a single bed for my 2.5 year old toddler, who needs to vacate his cotbed shortly to make room for baby no. 2. Any top tips on what spec to buy, how much we should aim to spend (ideally not too much above £250), manufacturers to consider or avoid? Hubby quite keen to get a divan as he thinks it will cope with kids jumping on it better than a slatted base, but we'd welcome your advice. Is there any point in getting a mattress with some kind of waterproof layer to protect against inevitable bedwetting, or better just to get a decent mattress and separate waterproof cover?0 -

I'd just go for a mid range open coil sprung mattress. There is no point going for a waterproof one, as it is far more practical to get a breathable waterproof mattress protector.
I'm not allowed to recommend anyone, but stay away from the big brands, and shop on line from someone who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the bed.0 -
Finally (almost) made my choice.
https://www.mynextmattress.co.uk. Cheapest place for these mattresses. Free delivery & you can choose the day. Can take off plastic & try & return within 7 working days. Ok, not a free return, but something has to give. I can't find a retailer with free returns + can take the plastic off + have good priced mattresses from a make I like the look of. (Is someone knows of one can they PM me please )
Either the Kozeesleep Xilence or Orthopocket. Both firm pocket sprung & turnable, and under £300.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these?
Edit: just looked for phone number of local bed shop in case they stocked Kozeesleep (Kozeesleep closed today so can't ask for nearest stockist), only to find https://www.bedfactorystores.co.uk have a branch 3 miles away from me & I'd never heard of it. They do price matching so off for a bounce (but the 2 I'm after are not in stock).

Where does it say that you can unpack and sleep on the mattress? I can't find it anywhere.0 -

The thing to remember with kids is they obviously don't weigh a lot, so there not going to put the mattress under a lot of pressure, if you are going to view some try to gauge the fillings a lot of cheap mats have hardly any and will become uncomfortable quite quickly even for kids.0 -

It doesn't say that, although it is sort of implied on the website. I phoned & spoke to them, lovely chap, confirmed they would hope you would order a replacement but would give money back. Retain packaging in case need to return but could take off plastic. Having been attacked by a spring this morning I suspect I'll be happy with my new one!
The location I visited was only a bed showroom & they were pushing the makes to avoid so I'll be ordering from mynextmattress once I work out what day I can be at home for delivery.
