Pah.....it's been raining. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Pah.....it's been raining.
Pah......it's snowing fairly heavily here and has been since lunch time - near Reading - no public transport - stopped about 3pm........
Roads that are at a standstill etc, etc
That's on top of what we had already ......
Good job I braved Sainsbury's this morning and got the last of the food shopping for Xmas - so I don't have to set foot outside if I don't want to.... except for walking the dog...0 -

whohoo, there will be iceskating tomorow then
It clouded over here as darkness fell....might warm us up...but more likely to add another layer of ice to the road.
The farmer reckons he WILL be able to get to me before Christmas, I'm not sure...its a really bit of road where the gate is, the horses and I watched a few LRs skid around and past it ...
I have buckets of various feeds soaing in the house, everything is too cold to be sure it will be ok to feed in the morning other wise
Only other problem....water supply to the field has frozen. I might have to go and buy something tomorrow to take water down in......add some more weight to skid with :rolleyes:0 -

Yeah, had a text from a friend near Basingstoke who said it was blizzard like conditions.
On futher examination, our rain was a mixture of normal rain, sleet and snow..all stopped now and we still have all our snow on the pavements and road and now twice as slippery!
So still a winters scene out there....We made it! Have to say, I'm somewhat shocked to see peole crying n the local news over it....
''Its ridiculous'' the woman says. I feel very sorry for her, she has to go to work or not get paid, and we all know how important pay cheques are, especially this time of year when for many it goes out as quickly as it comes in (and on date sset to fit in with that pay cheques prompt arrival)...but quite obviously...its the winter and ice happens.0 -
I must admit that when I was working late in the evenings (well gone ten actually), it always sent a little chill of fear down my spine.
We were sent home early on a few occasions as the ice and snow conditions were so awful (plus the bosses always liked to think of us as the little woman who needed protecting especially as there were a few pregnant at all times...on these occasions, we let them!) but there was nothing worse than seeing the outside turn white and knowing you still had a drive home..and not a short one at that.
It took me a day or so to get back into the habit of driving in not so good conditions this last week but I got there eventually, so I am not avoiding it now..but of course, still being ultra careful about it.We made it! But at 8.15pm it's dark and they will all be snuggled-down in their byre, talking about the price of carrots and stuff....
There were loads when I looked, and they were moving about. In fact, it was a damn sight livelier than Aberdeen Uni.:p
Dam..I missed them again. Still, working online tomo am so will take a look during a watercooler moment.0 -
I used the 4 wheel drive thingy to get me to work this morning.
I am seriously impressed, I never expect anything mechanical to actually do what it is supposed to.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Another accident on the main road today, involving a couple of vehicles, but I'm not sure if icy conditions played any part. No one seriously hurt.
This was at least a 'useful' accident, happening at the awful junction where the County Council has implied that major improvements will only happen if the accident rate justifies them. At that point there is a four way junction, blind bend, >120 degree turn, a level crossing and the station car park/pull-in. All these factors conspire to put many an unwary passer-through in a scary position, especially when the red lights start flashing, the barriers deploy and they are left on the bend with nowhere to go!
In fairness to the train drivers, who operate the barriers, they usually try to let cars clear before they push the button, but it's impossible for them to see all four roads. When I was new here back in the summer, I did find it a bit disconcerting when my daughter told me; 'He (the train driver) is waving you across!':rotfl:0
