Conditions on the road have been safe enough for the first car journey for four days today. Lucky. Food purchased for sheep and chickens, should last until boxing day. Does anyone know whether the supermarket opens on saturday and sunday, as I'm told boxing day is monday.
Lidl is open Boxing Day in Brighton...maybe SE London too.
If you wanna trashtastic frock...you can get one 9am to 9pm Boxing Day in W1. Son or OH will sort you out.
Xmas is never a rest for us....but sometime between jan 18 - 30th is.0 -
Just got back, tomterm, out here it seems the big supermarkets are only closing for hristmas day itself, with sunday hours on Boxing day, normal ish hours on Staturday and then Sunday hours sunday and monday. Access to bread, loaves and tescos are vital.0

My faith in modern childhood has now been destroyed.
Yesterday, the kids and I walk across the golf course to this hill, where other children had gathered, and spend a fun hour and a half on 2 plastic sledges, total cost a fiver a couple of years ago. Very MSE.
Go up today, and there are kids with snowboards for gawds sake! What do they think it is? Chamonix?
We have a reputation to maintain up here in the impoverished Norf. I shall be handing out a few flat caps tomorrow, to redress the balance0 -
In the true spirit of christmas, of goodwill to all men (& women) and the passing of gifts from one to another, can somebody spare some of the snow that seems to have brought the whole country to a halt. Except for outside my house that is.
We had a slight "flurry" for 10 minutes the other night and nothing since. We've had blue sky & sunshine for the last 2 days.
My 5 year old is driving me nuts, asking why haven't we got any snow dad.
(On the plus side at least my 2 year old doesn't know what the fuss is about yet)
Any donations of the white stuff gratefully accepted. I'm sat here waiting with my plastic sledge................;)My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

Nearly no real trees left in SE London suburb. OH went to get one today and everywhere had sold out....just bit's of stump and twig leftovers. Found one in the garden centre...but deff more expensive than last year.
Thank goodness he did get one as we are entertaining his whole immediate family Xmas day...it will be A Royle Family Moment for sure.
I have to admit, my stock control levels haven't allowed for any surplus this year at all. I feel quite pleased with myself.....well....for now.:o
Trees were being sold off for half price 2 weeks ago when we paid for ours.
Just been to Tesco and EMPTY shelves. It's madness. No more water biscuits for crackers and the cheese counter is sparse. Fresh fruit and vegetables being run down too. wondering whether to bother with the christmas eve run now0 -
SNOWING AGAIN!!!!!!!!! And not just a little, but a lot.
Took me 30 minutes to dig the car out earlier. Really don't want to have to do it again tomorrow.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

When we went out earier we went in the car not the LR. Going out was fine, slid down the hill I've been sliding down all week....between hous and horses, and then got up next very gentle hill and then ll was fine....coming back, we couldn't get back up the hill...depsite sevreal attempts.:mad: I was a bit annoyed for other reasons (I has offered to grit that bit of road too but was told it would be done, important as its near th church and hall, and there was old biddy stuff going on tonight at one or the other, and old biddies on Ice doesn't sound like to winning a combination)....anyway, in the end I gave up and did a ...snooze...listen....a 180 degree spin
(actually over shot a little, but I think I did ok, considering the car and circumstances.....) and went back the other way...barely making it back up gentle hill which had been ok earlier. Still had to go on un grited roads of course, but less gradiant, well, apart from one bit that I was confident no old biddies would be using, and which made my mother almost cry. Still it was HER fault we weren't in the LR. Got home ok.....
weather was wrong, we're meant to have cloud cover tonight, but it is as clear as a bell, and ging to refreeze where defrosts at least for a hard frost in the morning I guess.0 -
It's dense fog here and well below freezing so that two inches of snow which fell last evening will be rock-solid tomorrow. I did the good-neighbourly thing last night and swept the snow outside and threw down a load of salt. Don't want anyone, especially me, slipping on the stairs.0

Just had a similar experience....
Been down to my brothers to look over his tax return and work out his expenses etc (god knows why everyone gives me these things to do and always last minute as it's overdue) and then we settled down to a DVD afterwards while the children played lego and then dozed.
We left a little later than expected (naughty me, out with the children this late, oh well, it's school holidays) and had to spend ages de icing the car and then had a 10 - 20mph crawl home on horrendous roads...much worse than I expected. Getting up the main hill to the upper part of the town was 'fun' with the car not always wanting to go in the straight ahead position :rotfl:and the final few roads to my road were interesting to say the least.....eldest has decided he doesn't like my slide into the parking space whereas I think I have got the hang of it really wellWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
There's not really any snow left round where I llive, or where I work. It's just thick ice now.
Leaving work this morning, I managed to fall over, flat on my !!!! (infront of a very handsome man). Annoying really as you would think they would properly grit the entrance to a hospital? I was being really carefull too and wearing my snow boots.
Worse was that I was carrying a bottle of champagne (gift from relatives) so looked a right state, legs in air, bottle of alcohol in hand.0
