How dare employers rail on unemployed job seekers in such an ignorant stereotypical fashion. Vader you mention you've wasted time taking candidates on that are not suitable. Whose fault is that? Heaven forbid it is indicative of a flawed interview process / panel. It is your job to decide on the correct candidates, how you can bemoan the Jobcentre for sending you a pool of candidates and not charging you a penny I do not know. I certainly would not even entertain the idea of working for a company headed by a person with your attitudes.
On the effectiveness of the jobcentre in general I would say common sense would now suggest that there are a wealth of potential candidates working their way through the JCP system. The current economic problems as we are all too aware have resulted in many highly qualified people losing their jobs. These professionals if we are to believe the media are using the jobcentre now in numbers like never before.
Re: The recruitment subsidy, what great evidence that this government is doing something to help people back into work. Doing everything within the power it has to give unemployed jobseekers every possible advantage to get back into the world of work. We do not know we are born in this country sometimes.
Just seen this reply, to pick a few points :Vader you mention you've wasted time taking candidates on that are not suitable. Whose fault is that?
I never employed them, but I wasted my time, the candidates time and the JC time by interviewing them.
If I ask for a) 5 GCSEs or above and b) 1 year IT experience for a role, and they send me a person with no qualifications and 3 months shop work, its a waste of time! Everyones time.
I don't have to use the JC. I can advertise the role myself, I can get a agency to vet them for me. I use the JC because I have some naive social thoughts that I should give unempoyed people a crack at a job with my company. It is your job to decide on the correct candidates, how you can bemoan the Jobcentre for sending you a pool of candidates and not charging you a penny I do not know. .
I want the JC to send me people with minumum set of qualifications. If I advertise for a nurse, whats the point in sending someone not qualified.I certainly would not even entertain the idea of working for a company headed by a person with your attitudes
Well touche. I would not employ someone with your attititude towards employers. On the effectiveness of the jobcentre in general I would say common sense would now suggest that there are a wealth of potential candidates working their way through the JCP system. So given most of my roles are professional jobs and require a professional registration or qualification, why can't they match these people to my jobs?
The JC have rang me twice this week askign about new vacancies. I told them that after the last fiasco I am considering my options.
They have then assured me that they will only send people that match a person specification I send them.
Still in two minds, considering the responses here and the mere suggestion that I am "using" the JC and have attittudes to unemployed people.
Perhaps I will bypass them.

So the problem isn't the unemployed people but the Jobcentre? Exactly...
Jobcentre Plus staff aren't bothered about you the employer. They have targets too - to them all the unemployed are the same - everyone gets the same service - so they submit anyone for such interviews.0 -

So do you work for the JC?
I would love to be able to quote the line.Jobcentre Plus staff aren't bothered about you the employer
next they ring (read beg) for me to consider some of their people for appointments.
I thought I was helping with their targets if I employ one of them. <shrugs>

I dont work for them. Jobcentre doesn't tailor its service to its "customers" (clients/claimants) so it is Equal Opportunities for everyone.. although like you stated those who don't match your criteria has no chance of getting the job.
Basically everyone is a number, as long as the employee sends the x amount of people target, to you they are safe. if they sent only half they are likely to be disciplined for it.
There isn't many people working for Jobcentre Plus who are passionate about getting people back into work.0
