ps- i cannot afford to travel (no car, no money!) out of the area, before anyone snipes..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Having read this thread I can't say i'm really surprised but certainly less than inspired.
How dare employers rail on unemployed job seekers in such an ignorant stereotypical fashion. Vader you mention you've wasted time taking candidates on that are not suitable. Whose fault is that? Heaven forbid it is indicative of a flawed interview process / panel. It is your job to decide on the correct candidates, how you can bemoan the Jobcentre for sending you a pool of candidates and not charging you a penny I do not know. I certainly would not even entertain the idea of working for a company headed by a person with your attitudes.
On the effectiveness of the jobcentre in general I would say common sense would now suggest that there are a wealth of potential candidates working their way through the JCP system. The current economic problems as we are all too aware have resulted in many highly qualified people losing their jobs. These professionals if we are to believe the media are using the jobcentre now in numbers like never before.
Re: The recruitment subsidy, what great evidence that this government is doing something to help people back into work. Doing everything within the power it has to give unemployed jobseekers every possible advantage to get back into the world of work. We do not know we are born in this country sometimes.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0 -

i sympathise but do you realise the jobcentre expects people to be willing to travel upto 90 minutes away.0 -
That's not really true. There's nothing in law which says a jobseeker has to travel 90 minutes to secure the benefit payment. What they do have to do is abide by their jobseekers agreement which is constructed during their first appointment. They sign the agreement for a reason. If there is anything on there that is beyond their means to fulfill or they feel unreasonable they can put their case across and ask for it to be changed.
Also - the jobcentre has money available to help people starting work if they can't afford their fares while they are waiting for their first salary payment, so it's not as bleak as one might think.

I have to make everyone aware that those who are on Flexible New Deal who have been fast tracked into Stage 4 after 6 months may be restricted from the "bung" scheme. If you are referred - you are on Stage 4 which means you aren't entitled to the scheme anymore.0

so someone who has been out of work longer does not qualify for something that people who have been out of work for a shorter time qualify for? this is something created to help the longterm unemployed get an advantage.0 -
An employer has mentioned the future job funds initiative to me and they are willing to employ me for 6 months.
I have been on job seekers since July. However, I took up a temporary job posistion over christmas. Will this make me ineligible for the future job funds initiative?0 -
Yes donna, exactly! This is because FND providers are paid upfront regardless of the number of participants and if they bother turning up. It basically is how they balance the finance - those who can't go on FND (Stage 4) can get up to the £2500 maximum (including training) for the employer but once on Stage 4 as it probably costs around the same amount of money for the provider over 12 months the scheme isn't available.

Until you have been unemployed for the minimum required time (6 months) then from the info I was told yes, but the jobcentre have been known to be wrong on many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many occasions
