Cancelling Sky

Options
I've been trying to cancel my subscription for the past few weeks but each time I email them or ring them, all they do is try to get me to stay with them by offering me a measly £5 discount off my subscription each month!

Finally, they took the cancellation details yesterday and said it would be disconnected on 17th January. If they'd offered me something decent, then I may have been persuaded to stay, but I wasn't staying for only £5 per month less - (I'm on the full package and have been for years, paying £58 per month.)

Has anyone else went ahead with a cancellation and been contacted by Sky before their cancellation date asking them to stay?

  • Hi, like you I been trying to cancel for a while, i was offered £6 off per month... rubbish if you ask me. I said that I wasn't going to pay for repeats and programmes I rarely watch, I was going to give them to Christmas and then try and cancel again!
  • I emailed the chief Exec jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com

and complained that i keep getting talked out of cancelling, by very persistant retentions staff, who keep you on the phone until You relent!

I got a reply the same day accepting my cancellation.

The reply was from a Woman who said she tried phoning me but couldnt get through, and that she had arranged my cancellation/disconnection for the 16th of January, as i requested.
    Oh what's the bloody point...?
  • They will not usually make any "come back/ stay with us" offers until a month or two after the service has finished as they have got wise to the number of people cancelling in an attempt to get deals particularly as you have already refused one offer.

And are you going elsewhere or are you just doing without Sky in the future, what's your plans?

I cancelled in June and have just returned on 1/2 price for 12 months (will cancel when this offer is up). If you can live without sky for a few months they soon come chasing:eek:

    Hi Sal

Just to let you know I had problems getting rid of Sky. It took me 9 months to get rid of them!

I cancelled in Feb this year, TV and phone cut off at end of Feb and I was still getting billed right up to October! I received letters from them confirming my cancellation and all the amounts paid. But they still billed me to the point they passed my account onto a debt collection company. I was not amused.!!

If you keep recieving statements, don't phone them. Send recorded letters. We kept phoning them and they assured us that we had actually overpaid and we were due a refund, but kept getting bills in instead.
Just because I disagree with you, doesn't mean I hate you. We need to understand this as a Society

If you do phone them, get the agent's Chordiant ID off him/her.Everyone office bound has one. It's easier to track down who you were talking to later.

Not in my case. I cancelled in November 2007. It took three calls and a row with the woman from the cancellation department trying to tell me I wouldn't be able to live without Sky (!)

They kept writing to me, but never offering a discount, just patronising letters telling me what I was missing.

To be honest, cancelling Sky was the best thing I have ever done. I don't miss it at all and now use their equipment to watch Freesat. I'm also better off to the tune of about £20 a month. Rupert Murdoch can whistle as far as I'm concerned.

Well I'm still having problems with this lot.

I've emailed the CEO twice now and keep getting the same **** ringing me up, all to no avail.

He tells me that the matter can't be escalated further than him and
he's got all the power and I can't speak to anyone higher than him!!!

Does anyone know if there's such a thing as an Ombudsman for digital tv, or similar? Where would I go now?
