You cant have a pristine house if you have pets who live as family can you.
But I would say - vet bed! Put by the doors, they will dry their feet as they come through and they will choose to lay on them instead of the leather sofas - though I have one on them too. They dry in half an hour so you can bung them in the washing machine whenever they get too dirty. I tend to shake mine outside (the rugs that is
) to get the worse of hairs and crumbs off and only wash when desperate.
I dont know what to do about hairs. We had a light coloured carpet which was ruined in 2 years by dirt and wee/sick from the dogs. We have had a new dark blue one with florets over it for about 2 months and it looks like mohair most days. It cost a fortune as its hard wearing axminster but Im worried the constant hoovering will wear it out before its time.
Also got our first ever new car in September, the dogs are confined to the boot area now with a guard but the hairs still waft round the car and they will jump in and out scraping the bumper
Pain isnt it, but then, look at all that love you get0 -
With my Zara it is not just the muddy paws, it is also...the hair underneath her as she is semi-long haired, bushy tail etc....
But hey..... those eyes, that tail wag

I have a large long haired dog and 3 cats and am constantly cleaning. I try not to be too house proud but the fact that my house is never shiny clean does get me down a bit BUT the alternative of no animals is something I could not think of.
I tried laminate floor but my dog slipped and slid all over it and I was worried about him breaking one of his legs. I have a through room and the living end is carpet (a dark burgundy which does not show the dirt too much!) and the dining end is tiled. I hoover at least once a day and sweep and mop the tiles.
I also have leather settees. I used to have fabric but they were ruined in no time. Luckily the fabric sofas were given to me and the leather ones I have now were secondhand (although only 2 months old) and cost very little. The settees get muddy but at least they wash off. We did think about not letting the dog on the settees but because we have a through room we cannot keep him out and he would definitely lay on the settees while we are at work so we may as well let him lay on them when we are there. Also he is such a big dog he would need an enormous bed and there is nowhere for it to go.
As I say, I keep on top of the hoovering, sweeping, mopping, dusting (how dusty does the house get! If I leave the dusting more than a couple of days I swear I could grow potatoes in the dust!). I tend to wash down the walls, skirting etc when I look at it and think "my god it's filthy".The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
catkins, honest a vet bed (which is really a rug) on the sofa would be good for the dog and for you. You can have any size you want virtually if you have it cut off a roll.
Have a look at Bronteglen website.
When my sofas do get mud marks I use stuff called Fieblings cleaner and conditioner for the leather sofas. Very good stuff and the sofas have a lovely glow and smell to them afterwards.0
