Dogs - carpets/tiles/laminate floors? Fabric/leather sofas? Washable paint on walls?

It is 4.16 am and I am still in the cleaning mode but - where does one start and where does one stop with a long haired German Shepherd?

The walls in my hallway used to be kind of magnolia and all inside doors white - they are black/grey/whatever with dots from dog shaking and smudges from dog just walking by.

Tiles on the floor in the hallway have the grout in between them kind of black, used to be beige.

Black leather settes and armchairs and footstool are forever wet - then the "wet" turns into beautiful shade of gray MUD.....

Laminate floors are either covered with furballs flying around ot muddy footprints.

I seem to be spending my life with vacuum in one hand, cloth in another and a mop attached to my backside.

How does everyone else cope with large, long haired dogs in THIS weather?

I used to have fabric sofas and carpets - thanks God I have changed when I have moved..... Leather and laminate ARE easier to clean but - HOW MANY TIMES PER DAY CAN ONE CLEAN?

Did I mention I work full time?

:wall:

PS - Luv my dog, just having a winge... ;)

  • Tiles are definatly the easiest flooring to keep clean and free from staing. Re the grouting, once its been grouted you get get a sealant to put over the grout to keep it white. I dont know if it would be worth the effort but you could scrape the top layer off then seal it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa - thanks for that - obviously the tiles were not put right as the grouting is awfully dirty.....

Any name for the sealant where can I get it from and can I do it myself?

To be honest I get so desperate sometimes looking at that floor that white nail polish springs to mind.....LOL

6:49am, just put the curtains up.....yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Welcome to my World :o. Except we have three medium/large dogs, a muddy footballer and a road cyclist tramping through the house. The grout in the hall tiles is dark grey on purpose though. And the dogs have made a hole in the leather sofa :( Everything in the house can be washed or mopped - no carpets or fabric furniture.

I try to clean the worst of the mud of the hounds before they're allowed in. Either they're sluiced down with a bucket of warm water or wiped down with the dog towels. Then I put about 4 or five dog towels on the floor that the dogs lay on to clean themselves up. After an hour or so the towels are picked up an put through the wash. That keeps the worst of the mess off the wood floors.

Have you seen the advert where the super muddy golden retriever jumps onto the white bed and does his best to clean himself? That's happened here with my big Lab cross.

I sweep and mop once a day. The walls get washed when I suddenly realise how god awful they are. Mud and magnolia is not a good look.

I should mention that I don't leave the house to work either. Sometimes keeping up with the dogs is a whole job in itself :D.

Ahhh but I do work full time outside the house - to earn money for various cleaning products/mops/dog/cat food etc.... and come home to THAT every single day buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :wall:

Ok, floors mopped, time to take the dog out and.. start moping again

    :wall:

...but I also come home to a wagging tail, hanging out tongue and 35kg of furry hapiness followed by 2.5 kg of rather clean cat CopyofZaraTiger.jpg

I hoover every morning otherwise my carpets would be Golden Retriever coloured. I also have a carpet cleaner that I have to use on a regular basis. I cannot believe a dog can lose so much fur. As for cats our Black SH moggie seems to leave more fur than anyone else around. Our Norweigian Forest cat and Ragdolls don't seem to molt much though we do seem to get wegie Furballs all of the time.
  • 3 dogs and laminate floor, I have to hoover the dust balls every day (GSD x collie constantly molts, even with brushing his coat in the fields every day), wash loads of dog towels. I do keep a strip of old carpet by the front and back doors that I can throw away when they get too bad!

I have to throw myself on the dog shouting nnnnnnnooooooo!!!!!! (try to imagine comedy slow motion) when they shake after coming in from a wet walk ( mud up the walls anyone?)

Sugar soap is very efficient at getting walls and doors clean - much better than any other cleaning product: just be gentle with emulsioned walls.

Will ditto that! Forgot all about it. It was my essential when the kids were younger and lived in old house with septic tank.
