In the winter I shampoo turn the heating up and lay down beach towels and clean blankets so i dont have to walk on the wet carpet, but tbh if you have a good shampooer then itll leave your carpets 75% dry anyway.
In the summer I do the same but minus the heating and plus opening the windows.
I don't allow Magic on the sofa, she allows herself when i'm not looking.
A bit tricky when she never ever does it if i'm in the room, and will run a mile if she hears me entering said room.
I don't wish to shut her out as she's part of my mobile 'burglar alarm' and the lounge obviously holds tv etc.
So I just wipe it down periodically.
They are allowed upstairs, in bedrooms (only if someone is in with them) and they are allowed front paws on beds, I just wash the bedding very regularly.
Fire Fox, sorry, our vax is HUGE and lives in the under stairs cupboard with the hoover.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
My nan had a dog and a cat that weren't allowed on the furniture - when we would open the front door they would both quickly fly off the sofa onto the floor - then look at us with innocent faces :rotfl:
My cats go wherever they want in the flat, but I don't mind. I love seeing them cuddled up on the end of the bed when I wake up in the morning. They are not too messy, apart from taking whatever I feed them out of the bowl to eat off the kitchen floor  but I just wipe the mess up with kitchen roll. They love flicking litter everywhere too - I bought a handheld vacuum to pick up the bits of the bathroom lino but I think I overused it - it broke after a month!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Just so we are all clear what does mud on leather look like....
Zara got one armchair dirty then moved on to another (see the innocent face at the back of the photo) - leaving the dirty one to Tiger. Tiger does not mind.....

I vacuum my laminate/tiles etc - there is no point trying to sweep as hair is flying everywhere.
Then I mop.
Vacuum and mop every day and always have the mop handy to follow Zara on a trip from her water bowl (in the kitchen) to her armchair in the living room.
We live in a 2 bed flat, not very big but ok for 2 humans (got a daughter too) and dog and cat. I have no way of cleaning the dog up before bringing her back in - can not "water her down" on the communal staircase where one of the neighbours cmplains about dog hair (!) on the stairs (yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn).
Zara does not sleep with me but she goes on my bed when I am at work - Tiger sleeps with my daughter but when she is away she comes to sleep with me, on my head to be precise, with his chin on my forehead and often sucking on my ear.... He is 10 yo but behaves like a kitten.
I wash/change my bedding every single week though.
As to worms/fleas - if the pets are treated regularly for those - I can not see a problem?
Cat/dog hair gets everywhere anyway and as one of my dog mad frieds once said
- a sandwich without a dog hair in it has no taste

Zara is cute

We have laminate flooring as it's easy to clean. When we got our greyhound, we had the problem of her running and sliding everywhere!Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I can't understand it either. Why do people spend so much money on nice furniture just to let their dog sprawl all over it and leave it a dirty mess.
I have always found that there is a lot less cleaning if the dogs sleep on their own beds which can then be popped into the washing machine easily.
As for lines of dirt around the house, they get their from the dogs constantly walking past and a noticable line takes a few weeks to show up. Hence, if you can see the dirty line, you aren't cleaning enough.0 -

Nice! What's the point of spending hundreds of £ on a sofa for the dog to wreck? You must have a lot more money than me,0 -
