tempted to drive into car in front to teach him a lesson

this morning i was driving along a dual carriageway in town, speed limit is 30. Approaching traffic lights which are showing red. No cars in front of me. On the other lane there is a car waiting at the traffic lights. In my rear view mirror i caught a glance of a mitsibishi evo weaving in and out of lanes at high speed. he over took me and swerved into my lane, nearly hitting the front of my car, then slaming on the brakes straight away to stop for the lights. i had to brake hard to prevent running into back of him. i had a young kid in the car and was very angry , i was about to get out to have a freindly chat with him but the lights changed and he zoomed off. if i was alone in the car i would have drove into him and scratch his new car.

i was wondering where does one stand if someone cuts you up and slams his brakes on. since he has taken up your braking distance you would probably run into him. who is at fault?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

A very simple piece of advice. Buy a dummy switch for your car. Use a dymo labeller to name it "Grenade Launcher". Every time another driver annoys you just flick the switch and kill him. Then take a deep breath and smile. Life is way too short to get wound up by people driving like this. You know that eventually they will kill themselves so just let them get on with it.

As for the accident scenario you describe nothing is ever clear cut. There are those who say that if you hit a car from behind you are always at fault. However if you can get a couple of witnesses to state that he was driving like an idiot then you would probably have a case against him. I know a police accident investigator who tells me that the police regularly interview drivers caught in a tailback at the scene of an accident. He told me of a situation where a driver almost a mile back from the accident scene described in detail the car and the driver involved in the accident and told the police exactly how the driver was acting 50 miles before the accident happened. This helps the police get a picture of how the drivers attitude might have contributed to the accident. When they know this they can (and do) go back to CCTV tapes to get damning evidence.

You could always take his number and report him to the police, stating that you thought he was drunk. The problem is that Plod are so lazy and incompetent that the chances are nothing would happen. But if they did follow it up it would rock his world for a while.

A few months back my step dad was cut up by another car, the other car indicated and pulled into the left hand lane and slowed down, then pulled back across to the left right in front of him without indicating. The result was that my stepdad was unable to avoid hitting the rear of the other car. The insurance companys settled it as being the other drivers fault (ie the car in front).

I'd let the police know - that way if this nutcase is involved in an accident (let's face it, it's gonna happen sometime) they will have some background on this eejit. You will be helping someone else who has the bad luck of being in his path

Personally I think once caught acting like this they should lose their licence then once qualified again, given a maximum 500cc engine vehicle and see how they do with that :rotfl:

That's a very sweeping and unfair generalisation. It certainly doesn't describe the police officers that I know. Their bosses though, that's another matter...

Try & take some pleasure from knowing that an Itchy !!!!! Evo requires servicing every 4500 miles, discs & pads usually at around 9000 miles & tyres, depending on driver 6-9000 miles.

Report drivers like this to the police. Spotted a guy leaving a pub one evening, clearly over the limit, callled the police with his registration & direction of travel. They rang back the next day to tell us that they had sent a car to his home address & two others to try & catch him on the way. They got him at his home address. I guess its easier to prove a DUI rather than somebody driving recklessly.

What is a little worrying is the fact you were thinking of stopping this guy and leaving your young child alone in the car whilst you put yourself in harms way simply coz he was a numpty driver. Bad enough to endanger yourself in this way but to leave your child unattended at the same time isnt the move of a smart man.

If you ring the police and report that you think the driver has either stolen it or possibly drunk/drugged they will usually at least put a message out to be on the look for it... Did this with a car that ran a red light infront of me and then did about 70 in a 30 limit weaving between traffic, turned out I was one of a list of about 20 people who also reported it, so I'd guess he was probably pulled up somewhere...
