Happy 1st birthday DS / DD. Here's a cup of cow's milk for bedtime. Enjoy!:rotfl:

Not a peep from either of them wanting bitty. They accepted the change quite happily.
LOL, that's exactly what I did too :D
  • Have you tried getting someone else to give her the formula? DD (3 months) refused formula from me initially. She has been given some by her dad and gran and now she's used to it will take it from me. DDs only had formula 5-6 times - when I haven't expressed enough milk and when I wasn't feeling great.
    Making small changes everyday....
  • I scrapped the bottle. He thinks using his beaker is like us saying hes one of us-an adult. So I've tried him and will continue trying him with milk from that. His dad's tried feeding him and hes having none of it and he doesnt use a dummy.Always hated it.I'm the dummy.I might try him on Aptimal me thinks.....

Also just to say, while they are still breastfeeding is a good time to introduce a straw as it is a similar sucking action. My DD started using a straw at about 7 months as she thought it was fantastic and it meant she would drink more because they get a big mouthful. You can buy the thin straws first then go on to a normal straw sometimes helps as they think it is a novelty. You can also get cups with an integrated straw but usually they say 12months+ depends how strict you are with age limits etc ( I'm not at all but :D )
  • I've always used SMA and had no problems at all, oldest is now 2 and is thriving and has had SMA from day one. Middle one is now 13 months and had SMA from 5 months and is doing well (exclusively BF until then) and my youngest are 5 weeks and are exclusively breastfed but have SMA for top-up occasionally. Depending on how old LO will be and how many hours you do when you go back to work... It might be possible to bypass formula completely and top up with breastmilk in between...

(Well done on breastfeeding twins 4littleboys!)

  • Hi

I remember being in this position. I went back to work when my son was 11 months. Try a couple of different bottles or cups, you may have more success if someone else gives it to your child when you are out of the way. DS would take it from someone else in a bottle but never very much only about 4 ounces just enough to get him through until mummy was available. He wouldn't have it from me because if I was around he wanted breastfeeding!

When I went back to work part time, I used to express Mon and Tues lunchtimes just to keep my supply up and feed him myself as soon as I got home. When he was at nursery, he just had milk once, before his sleep after lunch. He had water in a cup the rest of the time. This meant he only had formula on monday lunch. He had EBM tues and wed lunch (I picked him up after his sleep).

I continued to express until he was 15 months and then phased it out by doing it later and later. I was worried it would upset my supply but I just continued to feed him when I was around and he had formula or cows milk if I wasn't. It worked out fine. I am still feeding him at least once a day now he is 3, usually before bed or during the night/first thing if he goes to sleep without it - only for dad or if we happen to be in the car and he falls asleep.

The type of formula didn't seem to matter to him once he was used to the bottle/cup.

I know this feeling! My Little Lady is just under 5 months but I can foresee I will never get her off her Scrummy! (Our word for breastmilk). :rotfl:

I don't think it is. When they breastfeed they put your nipple down their throat then slap the underside of the breast with their tongue to get the milk flowing.

Obviously it is different with a straw.

And a frien who breastfed her youngest till he was nearly 5 said when he tried again a while after giving it up he tried to such her nipple like a straw and couldn;t get any out as that isn;t how to do it.

Not saying don;t introduce a straw (they may well be able to use one, I don't know) just that it isn;t the same as breastfeeding.

Still BF my son who turned 2 last week, he asks for "boo boo" which is really sweet, it really calms him down as he's quite a live wire!
