HSsnowmen.gif Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 16th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

xmas-smiley-010.gifMorning OS friends.

HSbirthpressies_5172_064_7483.gifHappy Birthday Heavenleigh! Hope you have a good one.
Cranky - Thinking of you and the house elf. It cannot be an easy time of year and my thoughts are with you.
N9eav - No birthday hangover - I don't drink. I had really bad toothache that meant I retired to bed drugged up to the eyeballs quite early. I didn't even fancy a piece of birthday cake.
Redruby - So glad you sorted things out with your mum. Sorry the news isn't so good about your dad.hugs.gif
Pipkin - hope you weren't too shaken by your fall
wmf - good to read you again and good luck with the move to Scotland
Sunnyday - Thank you hon. Oh and on a good day I could easily eat a whole trifle! giggle.gifActually, on my enforced diet of only soft mushy foods, I could cope with custard and cream...
Bargainbird - Your daughter looks sooooo cute and I love the dried oranges, we have made them for the tree before but hadn't thought of hanging them outside.
flutterby - Hope you have a fab time in NZ too!
Ivyleaf - my decs are still in the loft and I have only made and written half my cards. I really really need to get my skates on.
Zippy - I know its too late now, but I finely shred the cabbage and kind of stir fry it in butter/oil and garlic. Doesn't take long and it has a nice crunch to it.
Haribo - Missing you hon, hope all is OK.

I did speak to Tris very briefly in our early evening yesterday but he really sounded awful. Our mutual friend says he isn't doing well at all. He keeps telling me not to worry and that he is getting better but he obviously isn't.

xmastree.gif Tried to get an emergency appt at the dentist but no luck so will have to hang on in there til Friday. Monday I took paracetamols and used clove oil but they really just reduced it to a dull ache between them. Yesterday I swapped to Ibuprofen and that actually stopped it hurting totally for two hours.. then I made the fatal mistake of eating scrambled egg and a slice of birthday cake and about 20 mins later my jaw felt like I had done a few rounds with Mike Tyson.

xmastree.gif I can't get too interested in eating at all but am going to put together a cottage pie with lots of carrots and grated celery in it, plus more home grown mushrooms (second crop almost eaten now). It will be nice and soft to eat so that is all good. Not even going to risk chewing anything!! I also have mince pies to bake for a friend, and no doubt my OH will want me to freeze some for next week.

xmastree.gif WM is on and so is the fire, and I am wrapped in a duvet til the room warms up which shouldn't be long. Cat is sat on the rug looking pleased with herself and I just set the BM going.

I hope that the day is the very best it can be for everyone, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. (including me!! giggle.gif) With love, light and festive wishes for all.

    Morning Diva.

Hope you're well :) [Apart from you're tooth. Hope you can get it sorted].

Not had much sleep last night and not feeling too great today :(

However, DDs have their last Japanese lesson until January and we're going to Nando's afterwards for lunch with their friends so I'm hoping to at least get through those, as we've finished then as well, until January. No more lesson plans, worksheets ect for a couple of weeks :)

I was expecting snow in the night, but it didn't happen here. Perhaps it will come in later - hopefully after we're back home.

No OSiness today really, but there are a few things in need of doing over the next couple of days. I also need to be thinking of meal plans, ect for next week.

Hope you all have a good day, whatever you're doing.

((((HUGS)))) to those who need them.

    Pipkin xxxx

Hi everyone - I've been MIA lately what with helping with the renovations on the house and trying to sort Christmas out.

RedRuby - (((hugs))) to your Dad.

MSD - your local health authority should have the number of the dental emergency service in your area; they'll find you an appointment somewhere in your area. The emergency dentist will do what is needed to get you out of pain, then any follow-up treatment you can get done at your own dentist. You can also phone NHS Direct (0845 46 47) for the emergency number. I used to be a dental nurse for the NHS, so I know the procedure for getting emergency treatment. Have pm'd you about pain relief because we can't give medical advice on here.

Happy Birthday to Heavenleigh; have a great day!

Well, I've been helping finish off a staircase here; it's in an unheated part of the house and, as it has hit freezing temperatures here, I'm grumbling about it because it's so cold. Still, we've finished most of it. DH just has to tidy up and do some plaster-boarding then it will start looking a lot better. I really hope he'll stop working on the house for the next couple of weeks because it's so disruptive at this time of year. I've barely got any Christmas decorations up yet, and it's starting to annoy me! I tried to finish off all the Christmas cards yesterday but got so many interruptions I just gave up in the end. This has been the most disorganised I've ever been at Christmas. I think I'll just have to start looking forward to next year's instead!

Anyway, WM and BM are both on. I have my online work to get on with, so DH has been warned that I will not be his labourer today - he'll have to find things he can do on his own.

Dinner will Toulouse sausages but not sure what with, yet. I bought a potimarron (a sort of cross between pumpkin and chestnut), so will find out what I can do with that. I also want to make yet more soup; I have loads of onions, and loads of leeks, so will see if I can make a couple of batches. We've found the homemade soups really welcome during this cold weather. With some freshly-baked bread, there's nothing better for lunch!

Anyway, I'm off for another cuppa.

Hope everyone has a good day.

I meant to say, now that the temperature's dropped, we have mice again :(

I hate the things and it's especially annoying as this lot are avoiding the traps  Still, a fair bit of poison has been eaten. Hopefully that wont take too long to work, but no idea how many lodgers have taken residence

    Morning.

Sorry that you have to suffer the pain of toothache MSD. I had mild tooth discomfort a few weeks ago and got an appt. and treatment the next day. I still had a problem so made an appt. on Fri last week for Tues this week. Thankfully the second appt. was free as they lumped it in with the first.
Got an ear syringing appt. for Fri too. ( I seem to be falling to bits) NHS working for a change.

No BA probs for me, I am going Air France. Only because they were the cheapest at the time and they flew from Bristol. Don't trust the French though, they strike far more easily than we do....

72 hours to go. More cleaning and tidying today, freezer need sorting out and things chucking. Christmas cards to post today too...

Tonight, late night shopping for the atmosphere tonight in Truro. Still have to find gifts for some of our US friends. I am really struggling to find gifts that are local like clothing etc....

Well, have a good day everyone.

Diva - sorry you're in pain, there's nothing quite like toothache (((((hugs)))))

Molly41 - hope you're not still worrying about things, chin up

    Happy Birthday Heavenleigh

Just opened my advent calendar - today I have a Christmas pudding.

Need to make packed lunches, tuna and sweetcorn sandwiches all round. Dinner tonight will either be roast pork or sausage and pasta bake, hmmm decisions.

    Have lovely OS days everyone!!

Happy 20th anniversary to me and mr tru :D

The plumber's last job yesterday turned out to be a nightmare so he didn't make it to us. He's promised to be here by 9am today.

Master tru is useless at putting his cothes in the washing basket, he runs out of clean socks then pinches mr tru's. So I bought him loads of socks for Christmas, with days of the week on them :rotfl:

Today I'm going to clean out all the animals (didn't do any yesterday so I have five cages to do today ), write Christmas cards and put orange slices on the radiator to dry out. I sliced them yesterday and they're still waiting for some heat :D
