  • I became a stewardess and have missed christmas and family occasions etc for many many years and was happy to do so, because i was in a quite secure job, with a hope of promotion and an ok income.

Times have changed. No airline is secure these days, and anyone with a shred of knowledge about airlines would know that BA's staffing arrangements are a huge noose around their neck.
I am certainly not happy to do it for the pittance they now want to pay us, the longer hours, the lack of promotion and the lack of SAFETY for passengers.

Then leave your job. Incidentally, I take exception to you claiming that SAFETY is at risk - do you honestly think that BA are going to fly with less than the legally mandated amount of cabin crew? Or have you just bought the nonsense from the union who probably know less about aviation than I do?

Go ahead though - tell me how safety is being compromised when BA are regarded to be overstaffed in the air?
We are not striking to take anything out on comletely innocent people, we were striking to STOP our wages and terms and conditions being taken away.

No, you were striking because you're all quite frankly spoilt on your current contracts and you can't face that the industry has changed.
The people moaning about their ruined christmases should think twice before being so worried about jetting away on their fancy holidays and thinking that's more important than someone's livelihood.

Ah, so jealousy is part of it?

Many people weren't actually 'jetting away on fancy holidays' but just wanted to get home for Christmas to see their families - although I guess you're jealous of that too, aren't you?
you are the perfect example of someone who cannot see beyond the end of their own nose.

I for one am heading home to see my family. I haven't seen them since my Grandma's funeral in October. When was the last time you saw your family lolarosogem?

And, are all the BA's cabin crew's xmas's more important than 1 million families?

No, they should be equal. By all means try to resolve the issue around your contracts, but don't strike. Whether you like to admit it or not, that affects a lot of people who are unconnected to you or the conditions of your job!

I take complete exception to this dormouse, how dare you.! I was not moaning about my choice of profession. I became a stewardess and have missed christmas and family occasions etc for many many years and was happy to do so, because i was in a quite secure job, with a hope of promotion and an ok income.

I bought tickets from BA. I paid money for them. BA entered into a contract to take me to my destination. A group of BA employees decided to break that contract and not take me to my destination. Erm, yes, that is my primary concern! Exactly the same way as if I went to Tesco, bought a trolley load of stuff, and then they refused to give it to me. Believe what you want to believe, you were taking it out on innocent people.

And, not that it is any of your business, I am flying out not on a fancy holiday, but to see my elderly grandparents. If this strike hadn't fallen though, you may have possibly robbed me and my children of a chance to see them for the last time ever. But you don't care about that, do you! Accusing me of not seeing beyond the end of my nose indeed!

Anyway, this is all hypothetical, as I am now flying out when I was supposed to, and will never fly BA again. Oops.

and how do you think you will be treated on your flight dormouse ooops..

you know what you are not worth it. If the rest of you sad deluded little people want a race to the bottom in terms of wages or conditions, go ahead. We are better than you. Quite simple really.

You certainly have shown what a lovely, caring and good person you are.

And what are you saying regarding my treatment on the flight - are you suggesting you do not treat all your customers in an equally professional manner? No wonder you're worried about your job then.

Feel free to treat him badly - after all, I'm sure he'll relish the complaint and BA will equally relish suspending you from your duties pending a full investigation. If they have to sack you, even better - that's one less for BA to worry about!

Ah, it's all coming out now. The superiority complex that turns many of us off BA shines through - and we make a beeline for other carriers such as Singapore Airlines and Emirates who hire staff that know how to treat their clients.

Let's be honest - with your attitude, you won't have to worry about your terms and conditions for much longer ;)

What specific terms and conditions are changing for you? Explicitly changing in YOUR contract? I understood it was going to be new hires that would be impacted by the changes. As a new hire, there is a choice between accepting or not accepting the job t&cs as proposed by the future employer.

As for the 2 year pay freeze, I took one last year, and a tiny pay increase this year. I am sure I am not alone in this and blame the economic environment and not my employer who is looking to ensure the financial wellbeing of the whole company.

Frankly, I hope BA stands up to the cabin crew, even if it means bankruptcy.

I quite agree. There are other airlines out there, even to the USA.

I just got an email from BA as follows. I'm flying with them next weekend and had used 25K miles to upgrade my ticket, so have effectively now got the upgrade for free:

    Dear worldtraveller,

Thank you for your patience and support.

We would like to thank you for your patience and continued support during the recent period of uncertainty caused by the threat of industrial action. We understand the anxiety this may have caused you, especially given the time of year.

As an Executive Club member you are very important to us, and we hope 25,000 bonus BA Miles will go some way to show our appreciation for your support & loyalty during this difficult time. There is nothing you need to do to claim these bonus miles, they will be automatically added to your account after you have taken your flights.

Please accept these BA Miles as a gesture of goodwill.

We hope you have a very happy holiday and New Year.

    Yours.....

Cheers BA (and up your's Unite)! :xmassign:
