As you're close to them, explain your dilemma and ask them to pray for you :)

    Though I think you've already decided ;)

Anyone else found this to be a rather heartwarming thread? Or am I just being a bit soppy? (Speaking as a person not 'attached' to any denomination.......I find my 'faith' in whatever I happen to agree with or what resonates with me at the time....);)

Let me start with saying that I don't believe in the christian God but please read what I have to say anyway :)

You have found God, and that will mean God will understand if you don't turn up every week. You can never let him down if you truely believe, whether or not you pray in the church or at home or at work then your prayer will reach Him and HE will know even if others don't... You are in debt and you are by the sounds of it working your butt off to pay this off and although I don't "know" your God... I think he'd understand :) He knows how you feel in your heart and that as soon as you are debt free you can afford to give more time.

Did you know that sheperds used to be buried with a little piece of wool to show the gods/God who they were? Because God would understand why a sheperd couldn't show up each sunday in church with the sheep and lambs depending on them...

You won't be working sundays forever and I think God would understand if you don't attend church for a while so long as your faith is true inside of you...

Now you can agree or not, but that is honestly what I think... Then again I am a pagan so maybe not the right person to listen to :)

Regardless of your choice then blessed be and the very best of luck :)

This isn't entirely related but a similar dilemma I faced recently.

We were offered multiple events on the same day (we own a PA/Sound/Lighting company) one of which was a charity festival with minimal budget meaning 0 profit. I had to sub contract one of the events because we just couldn't do all of them. SO my choice was either keep the profit earners and pass on the charity event (which I knew no one would want) or keep the charity event which was 27 hours work for no money at all and pass on a big profit earner. Keep in mind we have high debt so cash is an issue.

But, I also value doing what feels right. And, I firmly believe that if you put goodness out into the universe it comes back at you. There is in my opinion probably a reason why you should be going to church, otherwise you wouldn't be getting that 'calling' Sorry if this all sounds a bit 'new age' but I do really believe in standing by your convictions even when it doesn't make much sense financially or practically. Sometimes you just know what the right decision is.

Of course we didn't ditch the charity do btw.

When we had my god-daughter christened, we wanted something a bit special, and chose the Cutty Sark in Greenwich for a venue. Several vicars turned us down, saying that we had to go to their church for the service.

However, my aunt recommended a wonderful man named Rev. Branner, who not only agreed, but thought it was the most wonderful thing he had done all year. When asked why he agreed to have the service outside his church, he simply said little things like locations didn't make any difference. God would still show up, and might enjoy it all the more for a change of scenery! Maybe that applies to wherever you are too.

That said, do what gives you most peace of mind.

Nice post Toto and good thread Slayerx. :)

I very strongly believe that what goes around comes around and you don't have to be of any faith for this to be true.
I think that being in debt doesn't mean we have to be complete slaves to money and you just have to do what feels right for you.
